Thumpin’
Hoyer beats Murtha, administers spanking on Pelosi. Theoretically that means Congress doesn’t want to bolt, tail between legs, from Iraq. Maybe they just didn’t like cranky old Murtha. But there is too much inside baseball involved in these matters to draw that conclusion without more information.
It does, however, deliver a thumpin’ to Pelosi before she’s even taken office. Ouch! Gotta hurt!

I think it means enough members had the sense not to give Rush Limbaugh et al. an excuse to play the recordings from Abscam every day for the next two years– along with whatever other gifts “Total Crap” Murtha would have shot off his mouth about to TV cameras week after week. They clearly see him as too much of a loose cannon and, probably, glory hog, where Hoyer is respected as an able, sensible guy.

I’m relieved that Murtha is out, and that Pelosi doesn’t have the carte blanche that she thought she had. For the first time, there’s a little bit of hope that the Democrats will actually step up and conduct the real business of government. Not a big hope. Just a little one.
