I made this point somewhere. I can’t remember where now, probably because everyone accuses you of being heartless and clueless whenever you say that wars ought to be fought without reservation or hesitation if they are to be won. I don’t think I’m heartless or clueless, but I still believe that if you’re going to go to war, you should already have thought it through and committed yourself and your resources so you can win. Otherwise why fight it? It’s like Americans are the only people in the world who go to Survivor Island thinking they’re the ones who deserve to be voted off.
