A Message to Syria …
… that is a headsup to us, too. 500,000 marching in Gemayal’s funeral lets Syria and Hezbollah know their Lebanese power grab faces stiff opposition. The freedom-loving, Syria-hating people of Lebanon need our support. This does not mean asking Syria for help in Iraq. This means applying heat to Syria. Demanding answers on the assassinations of Rafik Hariri and Pierre Gemayal. Attacking Syrian support for insurgents in Iraq. Taking steps to isolate Syria internationally, particularly from its European pals. Leaning on the French, now a … I hesitate to say significant … force in Lebanon, to forget about Israeli flyovers and get serious with Hezbollah, the real threat to peace in Lebanon.
This is a moment to be seized. The renewal of anti-Syrian rage in Lebanon potentially opens another front against an active enemy of the United States, Israel and Iraq. Michael Totten reports its already had the admirable effect of cowing Hezbollah, which cancelled its own street festivities for the day. More on that here.
Democracy in Lebanon, as in Gaza and Iraq, is a work in progress. The people in these places are learning it doesn’t end with a vote. Choices have consequences.
In Lebanon and Gaza we’ve seen that buying into the notion of active, armed terrorist groups as political parties and granting them power by the ballot leads to war and destruction. Iraq, where the Iranian-backed thug Moqtada al-Sadr controls a faction in parliament and has Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki doing his bidding, has the same problem, and the sooner al-Sadr’s militia is taken on and destroyed, the better.

Assassins like Hamas, Hezbollah, Assad and Putin are trying to shoot, explode, and poison their way into geopolitical power.
Good for the Boston Herald and other real newspapers for keeping the heat to the feet of murderous despots and terrorists wherever they are.

Interesting, eh? that photo of Bush and Putin so very friendly at that recent meeting in Vietnam? Heads together, chuckles and smiles… and then Putin goes home and openly sells weaponry to Iran, shakes Amadaennnejaddd’s hand… and then there is the whacking of the Russian in London (by polonium of all things!!!) and of Gemayal in Lebanon, like Syria and Iran are knocking of every member of the Lebanese government so it can’t get a quorum … and we haven’t got Baker’s report yet.
Talk about EVENTS.
Well, Nancy will get ANY office she wants and that is all that matters.
