It Would Be Easy to Make Fun of This
But it actually looks like a good idea. If you want the Middle East to advance from the 14th century to the 21st, they need to crawl before they can walk. And Dr. al-Ruth’s Islamic sex talk sounds like a good stroll, given what we know about Muslim attitudes towards sex and women.
And this, via Tim Blair, is the alternative: cover up or face the consequences.

Baby steps are better than nothing. For sure a whole range of problems would be solved in the Middle East if they took a healthier attitude toward the relations between men and women.

My Mother taught at Cairo University and set up the first Public Health Nurse program in Egypt in the ’70’s while with Project Hope. She had numerous stories of myths and misunderstandings among her students and staff. It apparently was common practice to beat young boys for waking up with an erection. Many of her hurdles involved sexuality and a pervasive ignorance combined with an unwillingness to learn. Her time in the villages generated enough stories to fill a book, which is something I’ve been encouraging her to think about. So far she has only written a textbook on cross cultural nursing.
