Peace on Earth, Good Will toward Men
A Christmas message from al Qaeda.
Scrappleface’s version is a howler. Nice makeover on the cave, by the way. But what Gramps actually said has its ups, too.
Like the ISG, al-Qaeda wants to make it about Palestine. They are annoyed about elections, even though the last Palestinian election went their way. Presumeably they aren’t so confident about the next one, which Abbas wants to be held as early as this summer.
“Those who are trying to liberate the Islamic territories through elections based on secular constitutions, or on decisions to hand over Palestine to the Jews, will not liberate one grain of sand of Palestine,” he said. “Any way other than holy war will lead us only to loss and defeat.”
The UK Telegraph reports a Hamas spokesman for Hamas “gave a guarded welcome to the calls from al-Qa’eda for Palestinian land to be liberated. But he said that Hamas preferred to use its own methods, which did not involve jihad.” That’s interesting. I thought those guys were all about the Jihad.
Meanwhile, the AP suggests al-Qaeda may be piqued about the idea the United States should be negotiating with Iran and Syria:
In his comments on Iraq, al-Zawahri appeared to suggest that Washington should be negotiating with al-Qaida over the fate of the country. The Bush administration has been reaching out to numerous players in Iraq and to allied Mideast governments in an attempt to calm escalating violence amid calls in the U.S. for a troop reduction.
“I want to tell the Republicans and the Democrats together … you are trying to negotiate with some parties to secure your withdrawal, but these parties won’t find you an exit” from Iraq, al-Zawahiri said.
OK. I thought al-Qaeda was on the ropes in Iraq after the Iraqi insurgents started ratting out their guys and Zarqawi got whacked. But whatever.
Meanwhile, Stratfor looks at what can be deduced about al-Zawahiri from this tape.
