Davosspeak

Latest from Davos:

The 2003 invasion of Iraq was “an idiot decision,” says Iraqi pol whose political party in exile backed the idiot decision.

“Iraq was put under occupation, which was an idiot decision,” (Iraqi Vice President Adel Abdul) Mahdi said at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

… Mahdi’s party, the powerful Shi’ite Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq, was one of the exiled opposition parties consulted by Washington as it planned the invasion.

Its leader Abdul Aziz al-Hakim is a key figure behind the U.S.-backed national unity government.

Congress, which also supported the invasion, now agrees with Mahdi. So maybe they should listen to him on this other issue.

“If we can win this war in Baghdad then I think we can change the course of events,” Mahdi told a panel on the state of affairs in Iraq.

Meanwhile, Adnan Pachachi:

Adnan Pachachi, a member of Iraq’s parliament and a former acting speaker, said that if the United States could not stay in Iraq, other troops should be drafted in. “If because of domestic pressure in the United States, the U.S. feels it is not possible to continue undertaking this burden, then I think we should consider going to the United Nations and having an international force,” said Pachachi.

“This is a last resort really, otherwise there would be total chaos in the country.”

At that point, all Iraqis should consider going to the United Nations, because it’s in New York. It won’t be easy, though, because the last helicopter will have already left Baghdad. Definitely something in the water in Davos that inspires strange delusions. Every year, the world’s power brokers and assorted big shots get together there to say ridiculous things. That’s where, a couple of years ago, CNN’s Eason Jordan proclaimed that US troops were targeting journalists.  This bizarre statement, and not his earlier admission of turning a blind eye to Saddam Hussein’s torture and murder policies, forced his resignation after it was seized upon by annoying bloggers. Davos reduced Jordan, irony of ironies, to a blogger.  Over at the sloggily named “Iraq Slogger” (appeasement-happy slandermonger’s hyperlink not included).

They’re in the Germanic part of Switzerland. It isn’t the water.

Couldn’t something be done on the premise that all that bloviating is a major cause of global warming?
