Holland’s Funniest Home Video
Iraqi-born Dutch citizen Wesam al-Delaema’s righteous jihad vid … him and his mujahideen pals setting IEDs in Fallujah … is now evidence against him.* He claims its all a big misunderstanding. Unfortunately, there is also a Dutch TV interview in which he stated his intentions.
Wesam, who yesterday became the first person to be charged in a U.S. court on charges of targeting Americans in Iraq, was arrested by Dutch cops two years ago on a U.S. tip. They found the incriminating vid! The Americans had wanted him since 2003, when his “Warriors of Fallujah” footage was a big hit on Arab TV. He was extradited to the U.S. over the weekend after considerable squawking in a Dutch court. Apparently he feared Guantanamo. The extradition deal prevents him from being sent there to face a military tribunal or have his Koran flushed down the toilet or to be fattened:

Al-Delaema claims he is innocent and his lawyers have argued that the U.S. does not have the right to try him.
… Al-Delaema’s attorney, Victor Koppe, had argued he feared al-Delaema could be tortured by U.S. authorities and said the U.S. legal system couldn’t be trusted.
Here’s his excuse:
In extradition hearings, he argued that he was forced to make the video after being kidnapped and beaten. He said he feared being beheaded if he resisted.
In a 2003 interview broadcast on Dutch television, al-Delaema accused the U.S. and its allies of waging war in Iraq to control its oil reserves …
“I don’t care if I myself die or not. I want to offer myself up for my land, for my people. I’m not more or less important than the women and children who you see on television dying because of America.”
His family said the interview was intended as a joke.
A laugh riot, that guy.

Okey-dokey. Off to the US prison system instead of Guantanamo. No air-conditioned dormitory, complete with rigorously overseen halal meals, arrows on the floor pointing to Mecca, Korans handled with kidgloves, soccer in the play yard in the afternoons, and cool ocean breezes. Just tattooed Bluto for a cellmate and soap-on-a-rope in the showers. Sounds good to me.
