Acute Choices
Most excellent on-the-ground milblog Acute Politics reminds us of his item from late November about a sheik in Ramadi who indicated his desire to work with the Americans against the insurgents, then followed through. Acute now points to more on same in an L.A. Times article by an acquaintance of mine, Tony Perry, one of the original embeds who has gone back again and again into heavy combat to be with the grunts he loves.
Re Perry, when I knew him in Kuwait before the invasion, he was in his late 50s, overweight and said unabashedly he had every intention of staying well out of the action with command staff. But he didn’t.

Jules..thanks for pointing to this article. Anyway we can send this sheihk a case of Marlboros?
Seriously, I think this is an interesting look at how counter-insurgency works. In this case, the insurgents made the error and now they will pay for it.
It is something we should take to heart and learn from.
