2-7 Cav
Michael Yon operating with 2-7 Cav in some back alleys in Mosul. Storied unit. If you’ve read “We’re Were Soldiers Once … And Young,” that’s the unit that got shot up but held its ground at LZ Albany at the Ia Drang in November 1965. That was after 89 years after 7th Cav’s experience at the Little Big Horn.
My friends Larry Gwin and John Eade were 2-7 Cav, along with the late great Rick Rescorla, at the Ia Drang. If you haven’t read Eade’s story, here it is. If you have, heck, go back and read it again. Gwin wrote “Baptism; A Vietnam Memoir,” which is a first-rate companion to “We Were Soldiers.” Rescorla, remembered for his bravery and high spirits back in the day, was killed when the Twin Towers collapsed, as he stayed behind to make sure everyone in his charge got out. He is credited with saving thousands of lives. Here’s more on Rescorla.
If you are not familiar with these men, acquaint yourself and endeavor to use their example as a guide should the opportunity present itself to you.

Here, here. Thank goodness we still have serious-minded, courageous people on our side. It is amazing how many there are. When I read about the lives of such men as Rick Rescorla, I realize I shouldn’t spend any time over gnats like alphie and his ken. There’s Michael Yon, who puts himself in harm’s way, without pay and without a gun, and imbeds with soldiers for months at a time; then there’s the gnats who only swarm in safe places.
All blessings to the brave.
