“there is not a member of this body, not one, on either side of the aisle, who does not pray for our nation’s success in Iraq.”

Yeah? That and $14.95 will buy you a pound of Starbucks Kona Blend. So what? Actions are what counts, not pixie dust.

What they're all hoping and praying for is that it turns into a huge civil war and vindicates the peace groups and the pundits who have dubbed Iraq a quagmire on day one.

I think that when they got back into power, the Democrats began to realize how far out on the limb all their crazy anti-Vietnam retreads base have pushed them. They're hoping this non-binding resolution will appease the kooks.

I'd like to see one of these papers like the WaPo to report on the techniques of counterinsurgency and how they've been applied and are being applied in Iraq.
It should be clear that if we are defeated by these insurgence, all future enemies will use the same tactics, including manipulating our own media to undercut support here. Only the media can decide whether they'll continue to allow themselves to be used as propaganda agents by the enemy.

I'm sorry, but I just don't believe it. If it were so that everyone on both sides of the aisle hoped and prayed for success, they would do everything in their considerable power to aid and abet our troops, instead of enemy. Talk is cheap. If they support the troops, they are in a position to do so with much more than cheaply bought words. Put up or shut up.
