Tin Ear to the Ground
Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick sings out of key. There was the lavish inaugural. There was the redecorating of the corner office while preparing budget cuts. There was his insistence on using the state police helicopter as a gubernatorial conveyance. There are the tax measures the Democratic Legislature wants nothing to do with. There was the Cadillac to replace the usual gubernatorial Crown Vic.
Now, in wartime, a few days after the military health care scandal breaks … Deval bumps veterans affairs secretary from Cabinet status.
Just six weeks into office, with four years to go.
All I can say, as a tabloid newspaperman, is God bless you, Deval Patrick. Never stop being you.

Jules, maybe you can tell me. I’ve spent the years since Teddy Kennedy was reelected after showing himself to be a craven lout wondering what the hell is the matter with the people of that state. You are there, so obviously not everyone is affected by whatever causes the syndrome.
