I’m not looking forward to the coming election. The only positive I can see is that Bush won’t be running so we won’t have to hear the particular slander usually used against him. They’ll have to find a new “Hitler” to sling mud at. It’s too much to ask that those who sling that particular epithet actually learn something about the history of the Nazis, or even to learn what makes a fascist. Of course, that would mean that they be serious and thoughtful, focusing on something besides simple and generalized hatred, but they are human beings and have the ability to choose to think–hope springs eternal.

I would admonish the Republicans to do the same, by the way. I’d really like to hear people debate the important things, as opposed replacing debate with mud-slinging. I know. I’m old enough to know better. Sigh.
