Wrong When

Apparently there’s a bit of a flap about who supported what when.  I have to say, I don’t care. I want to know who supports what now.  Because we have arrived at a place in history where yesterday and what-if are not the pressing issues

I hate to post my sworn enemies on Morrissey Boulevard, but they’ve got the latest.  Support the troops.  Support the mission. Help them win. Don’t make them come home with their heads hanging down. It’s about them. Its about us. It’s about so much more. And it looks better than you might think.

Unless, of course, those returning troops question the war, or complain about the treatment they’re getting for their injuries, or run as Democrats in an election, or, god forbid, turn out to be gay.

Then feel free to piss all over them.

The problem with people like you is that you give a pass to anyone who pisses on America, and then piss all over those who stand up and take the responsibility to fight for her. YOU and those like you are the ones deserving of more than being pissed on.

Belonging to the military doesn’t confer automatic sainthood. Any country’s military is only as good as the people in that country. Fortunately, this country is still good enough that we have an outstanding fighting force, where most of those in uniform represent the very best this country has to offer. I have no problem with anyone in uniform complaining about anything–if you had ever served, you would know that complaining is a favored passtime. If someone doesn’t want to continue to serve, for whatever reason, that too is fine with me. I don’t want anyone there who has a genuine problem with being there, and neither does anyone serving.

I do have a problem with those who would use the military, and the war, as nothing more than a stepping stone for a perceived personal political advantage. If they have a valid argument, or an alternative that doesn’t put this country in danger, unlike you, I’m more than willing to listen to them, whether they are Democrats or Republicans. Believe it or not, I can give you a valid argument against the way this war has been conducted, especially against the main ideas and policies driving that conduct. You never offer an argument, however, nor do any of your fellow travelers. All we’ve heard is only spitting hatred and anti-Americanism. The way you use the troops as an excuse to do your spitting is despicable, and shows no love for them or your country.

This is what you offer, then you expect to be listened to.

I have to smile cynically at this sudden, hypocritical outrage over how wounded or sick troops are being treated when they come home, as if this were a new problem sprung up like a mushroom with the advent of the Iraq war. Soldiers have been having to fight with the Veterans’ Administration for decades. Not a couple of years, decades. Mostly because the people who run it are political appointees (and guess who did most of the appointing decades ago?). It is a national disgrace, but where was the outrage years ago? Where was the attention? Why did Mr. Murtha, who “visits the troops weekly” say nothing at all until it became public knowledge?

Spare me your concern, Alf. You don’t care about anything except taking cheap shots.

“Veterans and ladies and gentlemen, mothers and fathers, and grandfathers and grandmothers, we must get an advocate in the White House that believes veterans are an important part of this country. Veterans should not have to pay twice — once with the horrors of war and then the lack of medical care to take care of them if they are fortunate enough to come home. Senator Kerry, as President Kerry and a veteran, I believe, will make and keep his promises and his commitment to the veterans of America.”

The neocon’s disdain for our troops couldn’t be more obvious now. Nobody thinks they give a rat’s ass about the troops anymore.

Who’s Nobody Alphie? I know too many people who feel and do otherwise to believe your statement that nobody cares. The only obvious things I see are your repeated wide spread generalizations, cheap shots formed by a three word sentence, and beliefs that are backed up gross stereotypes the occasional quote, and nothing more.
