Ask Not What You Can Do for Hugo Chavez
Blue Crab and James Martin at the Charlotte Observer on a hometown hypocrite. Nothing like a smarmy rich guy getting cozy with an America-hating Castro wannabe who is nationalizing other people’s property, and promoting his campaign to buy influence with Venezuelan petro-Bolivar handouts to the poor. I bet you could buy a lot of home-heating oil with that Kennedy fortune.
Connie Mack takes a whack at Joe, too:
“Stop airing advertisements that portray Hugo Chavez — a self-avowed Communist who governs the Venezuelan people with the iron fist of a dictator — as a decent man serving a decent purpose.”
Here’s Joe:
“If your moral indignation requires that we not accept the discount oil to distribute to our most vulnerable families, then that same high moral standard should require that you not drive your car, because it, too, probably uses gasoline made from Venezuelan oil. Maybe the fact that you live in Florida diminishes your concern for those who have to forgo food or medicine to pay for heat or turn to dangerous heating sources to stay warm, risking their lives to brave the cold. If so, maybe you could advocate that they move to your district to alleviate the need to figure out ways to protect them.”
No, let’s move them into the Kennedy compound! It’s closer and more comfy!

Connie Mack?
Don’t you mean Cornelius Alexander McGillicuddy IV?
The guy who owes everything he has to his rich daddy?
And his rich grand daddy?
And his rich great grand daddy?
What would he know about not having enough money to heat your home?

I’d say about the same thing as this fellow knew…
In 1919, he joined the prominent stock brokerage firm of Hayden, Stone & Co. where he became an expert in dealing in the unregulated stock market of the day, engaging in tactics that would later be labeled insider trading and market manipulation
During Prohibition, Kennedy amassed a large fortune thanks to b>his illegal bootlegging of alcoholic beverages.
According to Harvey Klemmer, who served as one of Kennedy’s embassy aides, Kennedy habitually referred to Jews as “kikes or sheenies.” Kennedy allegedly told Klemmer that “[some] individual Jews are all right, Harvey, but as a race they stink. They spoil everything they touch.”[6] When Klemmer returned from a trip to Germany and reported the pattern of vandalism and assault on Jews by Nazis, Kennedy responded “well, they brought it on themselves.”[7]
Maybe they could burn some of those persons this excuse for a man said “they stink”. OH wait, they did burn some
Since you are comparing generations, thought I would as well. After all it seems you share the “they stink” sentiment.
Oh, look up the links to the info yourself, just as you did for Connie Mack.

I wonder just what the body count that can be attributed to altruism really is. People like Kennedy who call for “social justice” always exact it on someone’s sacrifice.
Notice that the toad says nothing about the principle being abused here, only about the “rich guy”.

The CIA says Venezuela’s economy grew 8.8% last year, almost 3 times faster than America’s did.

If Chavez is “killing” his country, what does it say about Bush and his crony capitalists?

Nice cherry-picking, Alf, but we can all do that. From the same site, this:
current situation: Venezuela is a source, transit, and destination country for women and children trafficked for the purposes of sexual exploitation and forced labor; women and children from Colombia, China, Peru, Ecuador, and the Dominican Republic are trafficked to and through Venezuela and subjected to commercial sexual exploitation or forced labor; Venezuelans are trafficked internally and to Western Europe, particularly Spain and the Netherlands, and to countries in the Caribbean region for commercial sexual exploitation; Venezuela is a transit country for illegal migrants from other countries in the region and for Asian nationals, some of whom are believed to be trafficking victims
tier rating: Tier 3 – Venezuela does not fully comply with the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking and is not making significant efforts to do so.
Or this:
Hugo CHAVEZ, president since 1999, has promoted a controversial policy of “democratic socialism,” which purports to alleviate social ills while at the same time attacking globalization and undermining regional stability. Current concerns include: a weakening of democratic institutions, political polarization, a politicized military, drug-related violence along the Colombian border, increasing internal drug consumption, overdependence on the petroleum industry with its price fluctuations, and irresponsible mining operations that are endangering the rain forest and indigenous peoples.
When you look at the whole picture, it’s not so rosy now, is it?

I didn’t say I’m a fan of Chavez, Reb.
But let’s start accusing people of what they’re actually guilty of instead of the usual mindless neocon smears, okay?
March 19th, 2007 at 6:11 pm
Mindless smears! This from the toad? Now that’s funny!
I realize that I’ve been smearing all toads, though. I admit that. I watched a doc on ants the other night, and realized that Alf is more of an ant, belonging to the mindless mass of the ant collective.
I wonder if the ant even knows what constitutes a neo-conservative. I wonder if he has acquainted himself with their explicit philosophy. I have, and I would never count myself among them. They are much too socialistic for me. I say this so he will know that there are those who are for fighting against the Islamists who have declared war on the world who are not neo-cons. I understand that it is hard for an ant to understand that not all people act like ants who merely sensorially follow trails laid by others. Some people actually rise to the level of reason and think for themselves.

$1.00 + $.10 = 10% “growth”. BFD. When you’re at the bottom dealing with small numbers, apparently large percentage gains are easy to show.

Well, PA,
Chavez is running his country better than we’re doing running Iraq.
Per capita income Venezuela – $6900 a year.
Per capita income Iraq – $2900 a year.
Even though:
1. Iraq has far more oil than Venezuela
2. We’re pumping $100 billion a year into Iraq, or two and a half times Iraq’s annual GDP.
Neocons who live in glass houses…

But let’s start accusing people of what they’re actually guilty of instead of the usual mindless neocon smears, okay?
Okay. You’ve already revealed in another thread that you’re for abandoning the Iraqis to all-out civil war, which means wholesale slaughter. But who cares about them, eh?
In this thread you’re all swoony about how well the Venezuelans are doing, which means you’re perfectly happy to leave them to the loving embrace of a dictatorial thug. Just another third-rate country full of little brown people, so no big deal, eh?
Anything else you’d like to be “actually” guilty of? Keep posting, Alf, you’re doing a bang up PR job for yourself.

Reb,
The idea that Iraq will descend into (more) chaos when our troops pull out is a view held by a minority of Iraqis and Americans.
Iraq isn’t our colony, the Iraqis should be given the chance to run their own country.

Poor lonely soul has to reach outward, to see the human fingertip. Now, doesn’t everyone, everywhere feel bad for making fun, at ITS expense?

Haha, El Cid.
My poor post production lately means I’m lonely?
Actually, I’ve been working on my next post that has considerable research involved.
My own personal quagmire, I thought it would only take a day or so.
I will Stay the Course! though.

One is to assume, (and all await with bated breath) that you will add greatly to the 1344 pages of War and Peace.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

better than we’re doing running Iraq
Iraq is a sovereign nation. We don’t “run it”
