Ground Views

It’s too easy to get stuck on the view from on high, and stare in fascination at the neverending trainwreck.  But sometimes you need to get down on the ground and look around.

Hate to sound like a broken record, but as usual one of the best views on the ground comes from Mohammed of Iraq The Model, who with a quick glance surveys both forest and trees here at PJM.

Here’s someone confused by the undergrowth. Brit Channel 4’s Tim Lambon, embedded with 1st Cav, is indignant that American soldiers are tipping furniture and can’t figure out why the blasted Yanks are doing it.  He also can’t figure out why one of the locals might not like the insurgents, and would point the hated Septic Tanks to a weapons cache, carefully hidden in a nearby house. You don’t think that hidden weapons thing has anything to do with the furniture tipping, do you?

Iraqi Rocker has to live like a refugee.

Zappy wishes he was back where the date palms grow.

Iraqi Mojo’s view from over here is, guess what, if they don’t do something about the Sunni terrorists, Sadr’s still going to have it: His mojo rising, that is.

No Pain No Gain mulls a chicken-and-egg question, and also points out some of the good things conspiracy-saddled Israel does for Iraq.

Some Soldier’s Mom’s guys are deploying again, and the one who isn’t is bummed. Here’s what an angry, protective mom says:

I know that there are those in America who claim to be suffering from “Iraq Fatigue”… but I really don’t want to hear it. Really. How self-absorbed can you be to say you are “sick of the War” and “don’t want to hear about Iraq” any more? When they say those things they disrespect these fine young men…

Here’s a grieving father who wants an explanation from above, but makes it clear he won’t accept one

Michelle offers a quick round-up of the latest from the “Support the Troops” crowd.  Support ‘em with a rope. Gateway has more on “peace” protestors in Portland. Meanwhile, Michelle, who likes getting in on the ground, gets in what you didn’t see on TV at the weekend’s Gathering of Eagles.

Justice Soldier, on the ground in Iraq, mulls who he’s fighting, four years in.  Al-Qaeda, check. Hollywood and Rosie O’Donnell, check. The Duluth City Council?

They throw bombs in state legislatures, too, but not like these ones.

Meanwhile, a recruiter rooneys Rooney after Rooney rooneys recruiters.

Take a ride with Teflon Don on VBIED Friday.  Don also takes a side trip to the dump. It’s March in Iraq, just about as good as it gets. Don and his guys luxuriate in the beautiful Muj weather.

Mail call for Hugh Hewitt, who gets a letter from a pal in Ramadi.

Here’s what liberty looks like, here and there, from Badgers Forward’s perspective.

A day in the life of Jack Army is serialized in multiple chapters posted on numerous blogs. Tour starts here.

Michael Totten likes what he sees in Kurdistan.

Sig Christenson at the San Antonio Express News, talks to the chaplain at Anaconda about what happens when Joes get Dear John letters.

We all want happiness, right? Armywifetoddlermom’s kid is told he’ll find contentment around the corner, and once he learns what contentment is, goes looking.

Welcome, Punditeers!  Here’s what it looked like on the ground, crossing the berm into Iraq in an armored vehicle on March 21, 2003.  And here, four years later, is a loftier view.
