Caution: Petard Hoist at Work

Surber reads between the lines in the McCain $$$ woes thing and senses some McCain-Feingold blowback, and has some other GOP campaign thoughts. Don also wants to poll you on a list that includes Fred Thompson.

It won’t matter to me who the Republicans nominate if Hillary Clinton gets nominated by the Doomicrats. I’ll be voting Republican, because I couldn’t handle another Bill scandal.

“Bill scandal” squared, Rebecca. We’ll have Hillary! in charge, with Bubba as “First Gentleman” prowling the White House for tasty female interns.

McCain is way too much of a “weather vane” (i.e., he’ll point in the direction the polls tell him to) for my tastes. In addition,I think he’s a loose cannon. So McCain becoming his own victim tickles me a lot.

Romney has his issues as well, but no where near the level of McCain. Rudy, I dunno about. In any case, with one exception, I’ve decided not to worry about who I would support as a Republican candidate; frankly, it’s waaaaay to early for that.

That one exception? I’m with Rebecca….if Hillary! gets the Dhimmicrat nod, I’ll vote Republican, no matter who is the candidate. Even if it is McCain (although I’ll grind my teeth in the process).

Agreed, JeffS, that it’s too early to be worried about who to vote for. Right now I’m wavering between Giuliani and Fred Thompson (both with warts, I admit), but that will change a million times between now and then. I’d even vote for a Democrat if they ever came up with a decent candidate, but Cold Days and Hell, etc.

Jules Crittenden links to Don Surber’s assessment of John McCain’s financial karma:McCain-Feingold was supposed to limit money in political campaigns. That is why McCain is having trouble raising money. McCain-Feingold made him a political pariah. Re…

Whoever I vote for, it will never be McCain. On the Don Imus show, McCain showed that he understood completely the ramifications of his abrogation of the First Amendment: “…I would rather have a clean government than one where quote First Amendment rights are being respected that has become corrupt. If I had my choice, I’d rather have the clean government.” Note the verbal quote marks around the phrase “First Amendment rights,” as though they were nothing to be concerned about. And what about the rest of the constitution?

It never enters the minds of politicians to rid themselves of the power they’ve accrued to themselves, power which allows the corruption to exist in the first place. Nope, it’s better to have business and special interest come begging and bribing in order to be allowed to exist and operate, even at the cost of the constitution. These are our lawmakers who are breaking the fundamental laws of the land–and in the case of McCain–Feingold, all three branches participated in the most blatant corruption since ratification. So much for checks and balances.
