Aggressive Patrols …
… and a lits of other options were offered. UK Guardian:
The US offered to take military action on behalf of the 15 British sailors and marines held by Iran, including buzzing Iranian Revolutionary Guard positions with warplanes, the Guardian has learned.
In the first few days after the captives were seized and British diplomats were getting no news from Tehran on their whereabouts, Pentagon officials asked their British counterparts: what do you want us to do? They offered a series of military options, a list which remains top secret given the mounting risk of war between the US and Iran. But one of the options was for US combat aircraft to mount aggressive patrols over Iranian Revolutionary Guard bases in Iran, to underline the seriousness of the situation.
Brits declined, requesting calm and restraint. Not clear why we aren’t already doing those, given, you know … everything.

Well, the Brits, even the Guardian, should be glad that someone offered to help in an effective way. Much better than the EU and the UN. Of course, the left in Britain won’t see it that way. It will be the US being overly agressive and warlike.
And, now that this is over, I am sure there will be in-depth media investigations into:
-the refusal of the EU to act on trade issues to leverge a solution
-the UN on this and overall ineffectiveness and criminal behavior
-the outlaw behavior of the Iranian regime.
In fact, I expect the crack reporters from the Guardian to get right on it.

Very interesting Guardian article:
“The British declined the offer and said the US could calm the situation by staying out of it….With the crisis now over, a remarkable degree of consensus is emerging among British, Iranian and Iraqi officials about what happened over 13 nervous days - namely that the decision to seize the Britons was taken locally, and was not part of a grander scheme cooked up in Tehran.”
Huh. So if it had been up the Bush, we would have bullied and blundered our way into another unnecessary war. Who’d have thought it?

Well that’s the Guardian’s spin. It sounds to me like we told our ally that we would support them however we could. Damn Bush, how dare he not go around offering support to our friends in their time of need?

Yeah, CavMedic, we wouldn’t want to cut and run on the British, would we?
Unless you’re a Dhimmicrat, of course.
