UnFriendly Fire
Someone needs to explain to Europe that when you choose to go to a war zone, you might get killed, and you have no one to blame but yourself.
The GI who shot and killed an Italian security officer in a freed Italian hostage’s vehicle in on Route Irish in Baghdad in March 2005 explains to the NY Post that a speeding car that is ignoring warning shots in that particular neighborhood doesn’t get to live. Profiteering Italian journo wants it both ways: The GI’s truth must come out at trial, but not before she sells her version.
Spain, also not clear on the concept, wants three soldiers for the death of a cameraman.
I’m surprised Germany hasn’t got into the act. Think how many innocent journos trying to give the Nazis a fair shake must have been killed by the hated Americans in WWII.
A couple of things about vehicles that are speeding at your roadblock. After seeing a number of those get blown up, I was left wondering how easily warning shots are detected by an oncoming vehicle, particularly in broad daylight when the muzzle flash is less obvious. Though I sometimes thought, “That guy looked like he might be getting ready to slow down,” the gunner who responsibility for all of our lives was the one who makes that call. Second-guessing what someone does in the heat of the moment to save lives is irresponsible. Particularly from one’s safe European home.

Someone also needs to explain to Europe that using these convenient deaths to push an agenda is recognized by all but the most obtuse for the heartless political ploy it is.

Considering that the Italian security officers were “rescuing” a clueless communist journalist who was stupid enough to trust terrorists makes that whole episode even more pathetic.

Jules,
And you are surprised by the actions of these Eurojournalists? All you hafta do is pick up a copy of the “Globe” to see how they cross-breed over here.
I’m a ‘Herald, man… through and through.

“safe European home” - Nice Clash reference.

The U.S. military executed its troops that killed civilians during WWII.
We won that one, of course.
Go figure.

Alphtard-I know that you’re probably still dazed from the incredible beating you’ve been taking over at PW for the last few days, but if you think that we executed troops who accidentally killed civilians during WWII then you’re even stupider than you’ve shown yourself to be on this and countless other conservative blogs over your recent reign of error.

“Accidently” cav?
Jumpy kids shooting anything that moves is no way to win hearts & minds.
April 11th, 2007 at 4:12 pm
Honestly-you are the perfect trifecta of stupid, sad and pathetic. Show that it was done with criminal malice and you might have a comparison with any executions conducted during WWII.
I think most people who have seen your droppings on these threads know the score so I don’t feel any particular need to dispute you for anyone else’s edification, but I can’t imagine that even you are so dense that you can’t make these fairly simple and basic distinctions.
April 11th, 2007 at 4:15 pm
The distinctions you make are probably lost on the dead civilians and their family and friends, too, cav.
April 11th, 2007 at 4:18 pm
Well hell-probably so. But they wouldn’t be on a court, which is sort of the point if you are calling for executions.
But since all you intended to do was fling poo and not make any legitimate point, those distinctions really don’t matter here either.
April 11th, 2007 at 4:21 pm
BTW-in previous conflicts we executed treasonous ratbags too.
Just sayin’.
April 11th, 2007 at 4:23 pm
Yeah,
But then we let some of them back into the union.
Judging by the quality of the leaders we got from them these days, that might have been a mistake.
April 11th, 2007 at 4:28 pm
I’m sure that made some sort of sense in your head before you typed it..
April 11th, 2007 at 5:40 pm
Alphie,
For what it’s worth, we never actually let ANYONE back into the union, since, technically, they never left it. Not one single political entity or nation ever recognised the Confederacy.
In fact, Conederate soldiers, sailors and marines, and virtually all of their political leaders were paroled, upon a sworn oath not to take up arms against the Government of the United States in future.

heh! The mighty alphtard displays his encylopedic grasp of war, history, and political intrigue. No doubt said learning was gleaned from his extensive reading of this highly respected publication.
April 12th, 2007 at 4:13 pm
Well alphie, if they had stayed in Europe where they belonged they would have been just fine. And during WW2 a whole lot more civilians got killed, accidentally and otherwise.
So, are you saying that the soldiers involved in these incidents should be put in front of a firing squad and shot?
