War Czar
Finding the right general isn’t easy. Just ask Lincoln. I’d suggest retired Marine Gen. John J. “Jack” Sheehan, a former top NATO commander, is not the guy, seeing he can’t keep his mouth shut about a White House initiative that hasn’t been announced yet, and also doesn’t get it:
“The very fundamental issue is, they don’t know where the hell they’re going.”
Where they are going is “to win.” Who wants a general who not only blabs, but doesn’t want to do that?
“There’s the residue of the Cheney view — ‘We’re going to win, al-Qaeda’s there’ — that justifies anything we did,” he said. “And then there’s the pragmatist view — how the hell do we get out of Dodge and survive? Unfortunately, the people with the former view are still in the positions of most influence.”
I’d suggest it’s a little late in this administration to be appointing war czars. But the right one could undermine the enthusiasm for surrender and give the administration something it doesn’t have right now. Continuity of its war goals beyond January ‘09.

A war czar would help to depersonalize “Bush’s war”, and give it the legitimacy it currently lacks in the eyes of too many people. Also, it’s easy to fire journalistic SAMs when your target is the President or the Secretary of Defense. Less so when he’s wearing more stars, medals, and other bling than Elizabeth Taylor. David Gregory vs. Norman Schwarzkopf? Please. They’d have to stop the news conference after one question, and they’d need a mop and a bucket to clean up afterwards.

After reading the Reuters site this morning, I see that the Bush/Cheney/Rove administration wants to find a”Czar” for the Iraq war. These people are beyond reprehensible. After lying their way into this war, mismanaging it to the point of absurdity, they want a “fall guy” to take the blame when the inevitable bad end comes along! Disgusting is too mild a word for this administration. Cowardly, amoral, unethical, ad infinitum.

If all you’ve got to say is what you “felt” after reading a Reuters story, send it to Reuters or get your own page and say it over there. If you’ve got nothing to say about the post you are commenting on, say nothing.

Sheehan. Hmmmm, why is that name so familar. Where in the hell have I heard it before.
Oh yeah…nope, agree with others…big mouth.

Jules,
Yup, we don’t need any more lil Mac’s.. we already got Wesley Clark for that role. We need a US Grant, or, preferably, a Bill Sherman to take charge and get things done.
I mean, really, who are we fighting? They seem to have put the ghosts of Braxton Bragg and Floyd and Pillow in charge of the terrorists, and we can’t win?
Respects,
