PC Racists
It’s worse than I thought.
What we did to the German people, I mean.
Here’s that Bundeswehr training vid.* The sausage-eater sergeant actually says “drei Afro-Amerikaner.”  So the reported comments weren’t sanitized after all, though the quote was truncated for reasons of taste.  Spike-top NCO instructs cabbage-gobbling trainee to shout aggressively “Motherfucker!” In English. Which Pvt. Kartoffelmasher shouts obediently and repeatedly like a good German, in a delightful Kraut accent, as he fires his machinegun. Â
Here’s the thing. A few days ago I mentioned the purposeful strategy of leveling Germany that was pursued by Churchill and FDR. Churchill in particular understood that the love of war needed to be pummeled out of these ultra-racist, warmongering people so that we would not have to do this again. There would be no conditional truce. They would be pounded into submission, until they begged for it to stop. And that’s what happened.
Since then, the Germans, like their axis allies somewhat farther east, have ranked among the world’s leading pacificists. If you meet and engage with one, you might be treated to a lecture on how “Americans do not understand war, because you have not suffered war, not like we have.”Â
I heard that from a German woman whose father didn’t come back from Stalingrad, who had to flee the Russians as a little girl. So I didn’t say anything, though I had just come back from war myself, had friends who hadn’t managed to do that, and couldn’t believe the gall of this woman. I’m missing an uncle. Crashed and burned into the Belgian landscape at age 20. Compliments of one Helmut Baure, ME 110 pilot, Luftwaffe. Reader Corndog, an old friend, is missing an uncle. Sucking chest wound at El Alamein. A guy I work with, down two uncles. A woman I used to work with, her father was the only one in his family who didn’t go up the chimney at Auschwitz. That’s all history now. War’s over. But, my coalbucket-helmeted friends, I don’t care to be lectured about war. Not by Germans.
It turns out we didn’t entirely scrub the stain out of the Krauts. We just turned them into PC racists. There is something pathetic, when the once mighty and feared Wehrmacht, now the declawed and idle Bundewehr, is reduced to swearing in English about imagined enemies they will never encounter … except maybe around the American bases that have protected them for the last 60-odd years … unlike the actual enemies they are ignoring at their own doorstep. Â
It’s got to be confusing to be a German today. Maybe we need to cut them a little slack. Maybe it is hard to understand that it is possible to fight for good causes. Liberating nations.  Removing murderous dictators, giving millions of people the chance to vote freely for the first time in their lives. These things aren’t easy, and there are evil men who would subvert these efforts. I thought that should be relatively easy to grasp. But to understand these things, it may be necessary to advance farther in one’s thinking, and that last war hasn’t been over long enough. Maybe the Germans don’t understand war, because they haven’t suffered war. Not like we have.Â

UPDATE: Bundeswehr instructor gets Imus’d. His bad luck. He may be an idiot but he is undoubtedly not the only one, in his army or ours. Whatever happened to being busted in rank and transfered to the Russian Front?Â

I saw this video earlier today on No Parasan and laughed my a$$ off-the poor Schutze seemed awfully confused about how to work that strange contraption that his Feldwebel was urging him to fire.
Meh-maybe Les Boche thinks that they will be called in for occupation duty under some weird UN mandate when the next administration comes in, otherwise I can’t figure out what they think they would be doing in New York.

Oh, for pity’s sake. Chill out.
If you actually watched the thing, you’d actually find it more funny than much of anything else.
The kid’s learning how to shoot a machine gun, and can’t even remember to load the ammunition.
Then the sergeant is trying to get him motivated, and gives him some examples. More than likely, the only time the kid has heard the word “motherfucker” is from Black American Rap. He even thinks it’s funny that the sergeant thinks up this example. This is no more racially charged than if the an American kid had been told to say “wichser”.
Jules, you have gone off the deep end.
For God’s sake, get a life and worry about what Gonzales and Bush are doing to us, instread of some poor dumbass recruit in what is NOT a “training video” .

Oh, really, Continuum? That video is funny, eh? So can the US Army follow suit, and tell recruits to shoot “drei Afro-Amerikaner”? Hmmmmm?
Or can they just say, “Shoot the motherfucking Krauts! Fire up their Teutonic asses! NOW NOW NOW!!!!”
Would that be funny as well?
Let me also point out another incident where Swiss soldiers were using photos of naked women for targets. Is that just the boys having a little fun? Blowing off some steam, as it were? Is that all right?

We spent three years in Munich, and yes, the Germans can be charming, funny people to know. But I don’t underestimate their capacity for murderous hate. A German coworker, a secretary who had personally seen Adolf Hitler in a parade when she was a child, was once commenting to me about the Richard Speck mass murder of Chicago nurses, and she looked me right in the eye and said: “You would never have seen something like that under Hitler.” To which I replied, “Well, no, because under Hitler, mass murder was a function of the state.” We didn’t have any more conversations after that.

I was stationed in Germany, and witnessed, first hand, open discrimination against African American soldiers, solely due to their race. So, really, this is just old news brought back into the light.

Thanks, Salty and Jeff. But you wouldn’t believe how many times my mouth has gotten me in trouble, including that time when the secretary complained to the Director, and I was “counseled” (we were “guests” in their country, doncha know). Privately, though, I think he was glad I said it, because that secretary bullied him mercilessly. Another German talent, as German newspapers routinely demonstrate.

The vid is especially evocative because the machine-gun is an updated version of the Nazi MG-42, dubbed ‘Hitler’s Saw,’ by the Russians because it fired bullets so rapidly.
