Holiday in Cambodia

I just heard Senate Majority Leader Dick Durbin on NPR saying that there must be benchmarks in the next version of the surrender bill, because the Iraqi government needs to know, if they don’t make progress, they’ll “pay a price for it.”

That’s tough talk from someone who can go to lunch  and drive home without fear of being blown up. Nor does he need to worry much about being shot dead by gunmen coming through his front door.

There was a wonderful song by a band called the Dead Kennedys in the late 1970s.  “Holiday in Cambodia.” It was about rich snots with no grasp on reality and no sense of how privileged they are.  It also references the events of what is known as “Year Zero,” after the United States abandoned its Southeast Asian allies and several million of their citizens were murdered.

Here’s the Holiday in Cambodia vid,* which shows a lot of tragic US abandonment/retreat footage, carpet bombing, that kind of thing, but is short on Year Zero images. Lead singer Jello Biafra, despite his brief moment of clarity three decades ago, is a big Michael Moore fan given to repeating a lot of the usual nonsense today.

AP and others were excited that yesterday’s veto took place on the fourth anniversary of the “Mission Accomplished” speech.  John of Argghhh!!! notes another anniversary.

*Thanks Mark

Thank goodness the North Vietnamese commies put a stop to Pol Pot and his brutal Khmer Rouge regime, eh?

Who were the favorite targets of of those butchers?

    Teachers, judges and journalists.

What you do not know is a lot.

The president of Cambodia asked the US not to abandon support of his country and leave them to the destruction of the Khmer Rouge. He refused to run for his life when offered sanctuary. He stayed in Cambodia and was murdered by the Khmer Rouge.

The Khmer Rouge were communists and marxists themselves the antiwar movement in America were very supportive of that movement right up until they slaughtered millions of their countrymen. Then people like Chomsky stopped singing the praises pof the Khmer Rouge and just found someone else to suck up to. At no point did they ever even hint that the U. S. had an obligation to support the government in Cambodia. Nor for that matter did they feel any guilt or responsibility for the fate of so many in SE Asia who suffered because they had been our allies.

In fact they wanted the Congress to leave those people to the tender mercies of the communists. I remember, back in those days I was an anti war demonstrator myself. It was the callous, self serving and utterly stupid response of the left to the Killing Fields that began my journey back from the left.

Now it seems the left wants to give AlQaida a strong hold in Iraq. Once again they are too stupid and full of hate to realize what that could mean.

  3. alphie Says:

    Terrye,

That doesn’t change the fact that it was the North Vietnamese commies that put a stop to the genocide in Cambodia, does it?

Nobody really thinks al Qaeda will take over Iraq when we leave.

    Quite the opposite, in fact.

The Shiites will slaughter al Qaeda when we pull out, just like the commies killed the Khmer Rouge after we pulled out of Vietnam.

    Get some better straw men.

  4. The_Real_JeffS Says:

I see that once again THE ALPHTARD enthusiastically supports communist dictators and despots, completely ignoring the fact that the Khmer Rouge was originally nurtured and supported by the North Vietnamese…..who had to take out the Khmer Rouge because they were threatening what little peace there was in the “reunified” Vietnam.

Still, I’m sure that THE ALPHTARD is consoled by the fact that there was a direct relationship between the Viet Cong and the Khmer Rouge. Sure, it isn’t a Stalin-Hitler circle jerk with tens of millions dead, but even THE ALPHTARD must be placated by the amount of blood and suffering that resulted in Southeast Asia from the monster created by the Viet Cong.

From which we may extrapolate that THE ALPHTARD will be orgasmic should Iraq be abandoned. That fits very well with the behavior of THE ALPHTARD.

  5. alphie Says:

    Well, Jeff,

America was a big supporter of the Viet Minh during WWII.

    And the Taliban, too.

    And Saddam.

The North Vietnamese cleaned up the mess they made rather quickly.

We’re still working on cleaning up the messes we’ve made.

  6. The_Real_JeffS Says:

THE ALPHTARD moves the goal posts! THE ALPHTARD changes the subject! THE ALPHTARD shoots, and MISSES THE POINT!

LONG SHALL THE ALPHTARD DEFEND THE MURDERS OF MILLIONS!!!!!

THE ALPHTARD always speaks Truth To Power!1!!1!!!11!!!

YAY for THE ALPHTARD, ACOLYTE OF STALIN!!!!!!!!!

  7. alphie Says:

I don’t know about “moving goalposst” Jeff.

Call it an attempt to tell the whole story.

America backed the Viet Minh during WWII.

Then we stabbed them in the back and supported France in their failed effort to recolonize SE Asia after WWII.

Then America killed free elections in Vietnam because we (rightly) feared the Commies would win and instead set up a puppet regime in the south.

When defending our puppets in the south looked hopeless, a Republican president, Richard Nixon, withdrew our troops, the Commies took over the south, then squashed the crazy regime in Cambodia.

Lesson there for us in Iraq?

Don’t know, but I bet when the crazy Sunni tribes we’re training and equiping in al Anbar start using their new skills to make a grab for the oil-rich areas around Kurdistan, the wingnuts will say,

“Don’t blame us, nobody could have predicted that happening.”

  8. El Cid Says:

And another thing Jeff, It’s a damn good thing the Commies saved Afghanistan and North Korea, too.

Why without the Commies, those places would be nothing. But now they are bastions of lively enlightened, peoples, living in tremendously thriving metropolises, spread throughout the landscapes.

    alphie

  9. El Cid Says:

By the way Jeff, isn’t Kurdistan, spelled with a C? Like when I go to the store with my mommies grocery list, she has written down, small or large curd.

    alphie

  10. The_Real_JeffS Says:

Why, alphie! I do believe that you are making progress…..you can tell the difference between a “C” and “K”!

    Keep up the good work!

  11. El Cid Says:

Г-н Жефф Gosh, вы. (Gosh Mr. Jeff, thank you.)

    alphie (alphie)…:)

  12. RebeccaH Says:

Don’t know, but I bet when the crazy Sunni tribes we’re training and equiping in al Anbar start using their new skills to make a grab for the oil-rich areas around Kurdistan, the wingnuts will say,

“Don’t blame us, nobody could have predicted that happening.”

Don’t know, but I bet if the Sunni tribes are stupid enough to make a grab for the oil-rich areas around Kurdistan, they’re going to get their asses handed to them. By Kurds.

And your last sentence is exactly what the Democratic Congress is going to be saying if they force us to lose the war.

  13. SoldiersDad Says:

    Alpjhie

“The Shiites will slaughter al Qaeda when we pull out, just like the commies killed the Khmer Rouge after we pulled out of Vietnam.”

Check your history…the Shiites and Sunnis had a civil war…it was called the Iran-Iraq war…1+ million dead.

Worldwide there are about 850 million Sunni and 150 Million Shiite…a war of annihilation…as you propose involves killing at least 150 million people…and once the Sunni are finished killing the 150 million Shiite..where do you think they will go next ?

But hey…you can blame it on Bush as your head gets lopped off….

    alphie said:

‘Then America killed free elections in Vietnam because we (rightly) feared the Commies would win and instead set up a puppet regime in the south.’

No. Wrong. Stupid. Ignorant of history and facts. In perfect character for you though.

‘When defending our puppets in the south looked hopeless, a Republican president, Richard Nixon, withdrew our troops, the Commies took over the south, then squashed the crazy regime in Cambodia.’

This is an incredibly ignorant statement historically. Nixon was left no choice in the matter by the congress of his day. None. It was congress that pulled the funding. There’s little difference in the situations then and now even in the projected slaughter if congress again has it’s way. so again. No. Wrong. Stupid. Ignorant of history and facts. In perfect character for you though.

What you are revealing, moron, is that if the Bush administration is forced to abandon Iraq by a congress playing to fools and cretins in the same way that Nixon’s administration was forced to abandon South Vietnam by the congress of his day, you’ll redact history to make it that Bush abandoned Iraq and any consequences are on his head. Do I have you right? Of course I do. They’ll be NO responsibility hanging over you. Like SoldiersDad says, not even when your throat is being cut.

‘Lesson there for us in Iraq?’

For us yes, not for moron’s like yourself though. See, there’s folks out there who want to kill us. And have wanted to long before we entered Iraq. They made a pretty good start back in 2001 too. They’ll go to town in Iraq if you have your way, then take us on again. Intelligent people believe them and want to take the fight to them. Morons don’t. They want to stuff their heads in the sand and think that as long as they refuse to see it coming, it won’t come at all.

Here’s hoping it’s a dull knife they use on your throat when the time comes, alphie.

  15. alphie Says:

Try not to be so afraid, oldman.

Nobody gets out of life alive.

  16. MikeH Says:

No alfie but you could make it out of life painfully if your wishes come true. I’m reminded of the young girl whose father had to get a sharper knife to finish the honor job he was committing on her because she kept screaming. I’m sure that you would have counseled her to be more dignified with all of the heartfelt love you could have mustered. Same culture that you’re backing.

  17. alphie Says:

Could one of you wingnuts put forth a credible scenario where the crazy Muslims take over America please?

Are they gonna win an election?

Launch an invasion while all our troops are stationed overseas, maybe?

Buy up all our foreign debt with their oil money and foreclose on America?

    Anyone?

  18. El Cid Says:

Oh and without the Russians, the United States wouldn’t have places like, Alaska or St. Petersburg, Fl., Smirnoff Vodka, the Bullshit Ballet (or however they spell it) or Pulaski, Tn. So there, you “wingnuts”!

Wait, Pulaski is Polish, but Russia saved them too. HA!

    alphie

  19. OldManTyme Says:

    Neville ‘alphie’ Chamberlin says:

“Could one of you wingnuts put forth a credible scenario where the crazy Germans take over mainland Europe please? Thought not. I mean come on, really. I know their rhetoric is all about world domination and all, but what cost peace in our time, eh wot?”

1..2..3 alphie says ‘Yeah, but it was the Russians that beat the Germans, so…um…um…try not to be so afraid. “

  20. donmeaker Says:

How can the islamofascists take over the US?

    How about this:

Islamofascists get a few nuclear weapons from Iran, Russia, or China (one that works, unlike the Nork version) and load it onto a rusty freighter. They sail the unknowing freighter crew to NYC, Charleston, Baltimore, Boston, LA, San Francisco, and detonate them all on the same day, promising to do it again tomorrow unless the US surrenders.

Democratic Majority, and Democratic President, faced with the destruction of many of their voters, and not wanting the remaining Republican Majority to say “I told you so!” surrender, and in the terms accept conditions that would permit picking up and imprisoning or executing anyone who said something nasty about Islamicists. Such law in practice permits picking up Defense Democrats like Lieberman, and Glen Reynolds as well as Republicans other than Chuck Hagel.

So there you have it. Mass murder, conducted by our own brand of Quisling, conducted for the best of causes: to remain in power.
