Red Dress of Shame

But surely these are reasonable people, people we can talk to:

SHARM EL-SHEIKH: Iran’s foreign minister abruptly left a dinner where he was to sit opposite US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, complaining that a red dress worn by an entertainer was too revealing, a US official said on Friday.

I don’t know about you, but I think we’ve seen all we need to see here. I’ve just missed the news flash. We have started bombing the daylights out of Iran’s nuclear facilities and terrorist training facilities, right? Never mind the terrorism, the push for regional domination, the torture and summary executions. Are we going to stand by and let these cads insult a lady?

Larissa Abramova, a Ukrainian violinist, thought her red dress was lovely. But it apparently offended Iran’s foreign minister so much he boycotted a gala dinner attended by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

Abramova said Friday she was wearing a red, sleeveless dress with matching gloves coming up past the elbow and a red scarf draped over the low-cut front. She chose the ensemble especially for Thursday’s dinner for dozens of the world’s top diplomats because she knew she would “look beautiful in it,” she told the Associated Press.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit had hoped the occasion would be a chance for Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki and Rice to have an informal talk on the sidelines of an international conference on Iraq in this Red Sea resort town. A place had been set for him across from Rice at the dinner.

Poor Gheit. Thought he might, I don’t know, save the world or something. Must have thought he was dealing with relatively normal grownups.

Through a translator, Mottaki told reporters there were problems with “Islamic standards” at the gathering. “There was something wrong with that so I offered my apologies,” Mottaki said. “There was no other reason.”

A U.S. official with Rice’s delegation said Mottaki complained to the Egyptians that the hotel violinist was dressed too revealingly. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the dinner was a closed affair.

“I don’t know which woman he was afraid of, the woman in the red dress or the secretary of state,” State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said Friday.

Anyway, ambassador-level meeting not withstanding, the mullahs have pretty much signalled now that they don’t care to treat with us on anything approaching normal manner. Never mind this:  U.S.-led forces on Friday arrested suspected Shiite militants accused of smuggling powerful bomb components from Iran.

“I think the problem (is) not in me and not in my dress,” Abramova told AP, speaking alternately in English and through an interpreter. “It was some other reason because he left the party.”

Abramova, who plays at the hotel every night, said she saw many diplomats in suits passing by, but did not recognize Mottaki or notice him sitting. At the time, she was playing her usual repertoire of classic pop songs such as the theme to “Love Story,” “Dr. Zhivago” and “The Godfather.”

Is this not unclean Jewish music?  That must be it. There must be a sound rationale for the startling behavior of the distinguished gentleman from Iran.

The rationale for the behavior of the man from Iran (I refuse to call them “gentlemen”) is that he is a backward Islamic hayseed who, like all his ilk, cannot act in a civilized manner to any who do not conform to “Islamic principles”. Rather than the violinist’s dress, I suspect is was the gender and color of the woman to be seated across from him that offended him.

    Scardy cat.

    And they call themselves men!

RebeccaH, as hard as it is for him to fight the designation of barbaric religionist, the irony of the adjectives are an amplification of his failure to defeat it.

Look, it was CYA and nothing more. The Foreign Minister’s boss, President Mymood Iminajihad, has come under fire from Mullah supporting newspapers for attending an international event with women dancers not in burqas. President Iwantaholocaust is also right now under fire for kissing the hand of his female elementary school teacher. The FM is simply trying to keep his job.

  5. KAD Says:

Good. I don’t think anything can be gained by talking to Iran right now. They are supplying the IEDs that are killing our soldiers.

Jabba, if we let ONE international leader off the hook, the door is open for every single corrupt capitalistic swine to bolt for freedom. And we can’t let that happen.

I mean, even if the Iranian FM can’t stand the sight of a young woman’s cleavage, he’s needs to take one for the team. THERE IS NO OTHER WAY TO REGAIN THE MOMENTUM. Even if he must face problems at home for oogling some beauty’s bosom inside an infidel establishment serving sustenance forbidden to followers of that non-Christian religion. He will be a martyr to The Cause, and will be remembered forever.

And even if Mottaki was set up, this is still necessary. I mean, Rice is a pianist, and the alluring young woman in question is a violinist. Both are female. Both are from the West. Both are NOT Islamic. THERE’S A CONNECTION HERE, and it can’t be ignored.

So Bush was involved here. BUSH, man, BUSH. We can’t back down.
