La Liberte

Check out Sarkozy.  His first big speech:

France will not abandon the women who are condemned to the burqa; France will not abandon the women who do not have liberty. France will be by the side of the oppressed of the world.

I’d say talk is cheap, but Sarkozy is speaking out against the French/Arab street, which enjoys largescale destruction of property and throwing things at cops.  More like this.  I know the symbol of French liberty is a burkha-free woman, but don’t forget the men, children, old people. Hey, I know where he can find some oppressed people, yearning to claim the freedom Americans, Iraqis and Brits are fighting to give them.  There’s some more over there in the ‘Stan, who could use a hand.

Sarkozy can parlez the parlez. But does he promenade the promenade?

I think a likely first target would be France’s immigration rules. There is a significant issue in several European countries with legal immigrants forcing there of-age female children into arranged marriages with relatives from the home country.

Judge Crater, so they found you!

I’m reserving judgment on what the Sarkozy win really means, but it does seem that the French are waking up to the looming disaster their policies have brought. Let’s hope they have the courage to follow up on it. It’s going to take a lot more than just the one man, though.

Let’s say he does want (and intend) to do what he says. He’s got one big problem: the French.

  5. El Cid Says:

Ze French, had better hope that Sarkosy is the second coming of, Charles ‘The Hammer’ Martel. Sarkosy had better hope, the same thing.

Sarkozy won’t say ”Que sera sera.” That’s enough in my book to give the guy a chance. Don’t knock the French, just in case they’ve re-entered the real world and stopped living in fantasyland.

You can always bash them later if we find that they are still idiots.

    Yeah,

Stunned. I have to wonder if they are upset because he has promised an end to the 35 hour work week…

I hope he succeeds. Civilization may well depend upon what France does in the next ten years.

    Respects,
