Sharpton = Bigot
Sharpton: “As for the one Mormon running for office, those that really believe in God will defeat him anyway, so don’t worry about that. That’s a temporary situation.”
Sharpton, stone-throwing glasshouse dweller, says it was all taken out of context. Yeah, sure, we’ve all heard that one before. He’s dancing a bit: Blue-eyed devils used to be bigots, so they used to believe in a false God. Bigotry now vs. bigotry then is OK. Well, that’s more or less the principle of affirmative action, so you can’t say he isn’t consistent.
Don’t mind Sharpton. Those that really believe in equality will defeat him anyway. That’s a temporary situation.
The only question I have is, when are the polite protesters with white shirts and ties going to show up outside Sharpton’s digs? In their multitudes.
Hewitt: Hey, why the deathly silence from the usual anti-bigots?

Jules,
I dunno….. I’m trying hard to tread lightly here, but having grown up in Utah, I won’t ever move back, and it has everything to do with the LDS Church. I see those clean-cut kids with the name tags and the little black book bags, and I get very clammy. I’ll cross the street to stay away from them.
As someone who WASN’T a Mormon, growing up out there meant being subjected to constant harassment, weekly fights, name calling, and generally being reduced to a social level somewhere down below “God’s Chosen”.. way down below.
I have read the Book of Mormon, and I have heard the Bishops, Stake Presidents, and Elders all expound upon the virtues of being White and LDS, how when American Indians (they call them Lamanites) all covert to Mormonism, that God will turn their skin white like it once was. How Blacks have black skin because that is the mark of Cain that God placed upon them. I have heard all of this with my own ears, seen it spoken and taught with my own eyes.
Romney may be many things, but he is still an ordained Bishop in his church, and I cannot see how anyone who believes the racist & elitist teachings of that church, who has taught those same beliefs to children and young adults, can serve as President of these United States.
If Romney wants to be president, he needs to renounce Mormonism.
I’m certain other’s will have a differing opinion here, and that’s fine. I speak only from my own experiences.

Tim, I am going to neither agree nor disagree with you. I am just going to point that Al Sharpton is at least as much of a racist as you portray the Mormons. At least. Not to mention, IMHO, that Sharpton is a scam artist of the highest degree.
I don’t look favorably upon Romney (for reasons other than his religion), but there is no way Sharpton can be let off the hook for his comments. And that ignores the simple hyprocrisy Sharpton (and much of the left) engages in, as per their SOP.

I also spent part of my childhood in a largely Mormon area (of New Mexico, not Utah), and aside from their social welfare system, I didn’t find much to admire. In fact, I still find the whole Jesus and the Lost Tribes in America ridiculous, but no more so than believing a dry, tasteless little wafer is the actual flesh of Christ. That was the mid-fifties, when some mainstream Mormons were still practicing polygamy on the sly. Since those days, however, their president has had a “revelation” that repudiates the former teachings about non-whites being “stained by the mark of Cain”, and blacks can become officers of the church just as whites can (I don’t think they have a formal priesthood or ministerial class).
Mitt Romney’s Mormonism doesn’t bother me. If he were to be elected President, I’d expect him to keep his religion out of my life the same as I’d expect of any other president. Al Sharpton’s bigotry does bother me, mostly for the damage he does among populations that refuse to see him for the lying sack of excrement that he is.

Romney’s a Mormon?

JeffS,
I agree about the Reveran Al. He and Jesse are every bit as much race baiters as any white bigot. they just go at it from different angles.
I’ll say no more about Mitt. I’ve said enough already I guess.

Sharpton is just another petty power-monger. He wears his religion as underwear to cover his butt. And he gets away with it again and again.

What we need to do is, get over white guilt. Then the Jackson’s and Sharpton’s will disappear. I would say Islam has been enslaving the black for a hell of a lot longer then whites have…why don’t Sharpton and Jackson hustle the Islamists?
Haven’t really followed Mormonism, to the extent some here have. Just may have to brush up a tad.
