He was for public discourse before he was against it. In the same aptly named blatherfest, ”The Assault on Reason.”
What’s Al Gore got against “the rejection and distortion of science,” anyway? He got an Oscar doing that.
Gateway helpfully cuts to earlier assaults on reason.
Surber recalls the assault on democracy.
Riehl bestows Pot-Meets-Kettle Lifetime Achievement Award. Not to be outdone, Crittenden directs the honoree to the Glass House Stone Throne, there to cushion his bum upon the Golden Petard.
TalkLeft is dutifully hangdog and chastened upon hearing the Sermon on the Pile.
Fawning Shakesville breaks into song!
Digby shakes his head, bemoans the horrible truth: Bush, not Gore, has been at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. since 2001.
And that pretty much says it all.

Al Gore scares the bejeebus out of me. If anyone was ever a demagogue-in-making, it’s him.

Thanks for the link, Jules.
Some of those other folks you linked to are…out there a bit.
But I guess I’m just being unreasonable.

GORE IS NOT advocating true discourse and debate.
THE KEY ISSUE is the role of discourse. True liberal democracies MUST have productive discourse, debate, and argument because it is the engine of democracy. It is essential to adapt, change, and improve in liberal democracies, because if it does not happen, people lose elections. When a governmental crisis appears, democracies argue vigorously about the best course of action, vote on it, and move on.
SOCIALISM IS NOT DESIGNED TO TOLERATE DISSENT. Socialists are working from a script provided by Marx, and they are not going to change it. They confront and destroy anyone who challenges them. Morality, ethics, civility, or ‘discourse’ have nothing to do with it. Marx said you should get control of the government and impose Socialism by whatever means is expedient. Controversy and debate is dangerous for Socialists because it will undermine their political ‘progress’ to a large, top-down, fully controlling government. Disagreement is not permitted. When Socialists gain power, they show their true nature. If a governmental crisis appears, they make a top-down decision, clamp down on dissent, and force the new policy on the population. It happens all the time in Europe, it is happening at this very moment in Venezuela.
GORE’S IDEA OF DISCUSSION IS GETTING AMERICANS TO LISTEN WHILE HE TELLS THEM BUNKUM.

The promulgation of falsehoods has been the very essence of the leftist project from way back when:
“You are no longer obliged to tell the truth if you don’t feel like it”
