“Adventure of a Lifetime”

Australian Taliban David Hicks/Muhammad Dawood, waltzing Mathilda once more, ”eight years after he left his Adelaide home for the adventure of a lifetime in Pakistan.”  Killing infidels, global jihad … such a grand adventure!

More from the Sydney Morning Herald:

Hicks, convicted of providing material support to a terrorist organisation, has spent more than five years at Guantanamo, one of the world’s most oppressive prisons.

So horrible there! Though I hear China, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Russia, a few other places have some real beauts, in strong contention for “most oppressive.”  Anyway, I’d guess being fattened up at Gitmo beats getting your head sawed off on al-Jazeera.  SMH also describes some of the torture Hicks will undergo in his native Oz.  Strip search upon entering prison, 23 hours a day in his cell, largely deprived of the company of other criminals.  Hey, I was wondering, how come this story doesn’t have any quotes. Oh, here’s one:

Sydney man Mamdouh Habib, himself a fellow former Guantanamo detainee, has spoken of his relief that Hicks has returned to Australia and said he hoped Hicks would soon have the chance to tell his story.

“It’s a big relief that David Hicks is home,” Mr Habib said. “We can show who is right and who is wrong. Any question can be answered.”

However, the Crusader-Zionist government of Bush’s wallaby, Prime Minister John Howard, has said it will persecute Hicks if he attempts to recoup any of his financial losses by detailing the torture and starvation he endured at the hands of the Bush administration.

OK, that last graph wasn’t exactly in there.  Not sure why. SMH is falling down on the job.  But here’s another quote:

A handful of protesters — including two people holding placards, one of which read “This is a travesty of justice” — stood outside the prison along with a big media contingent.

Protester Steve Patroni said: “David Hicks is a political prisoner and it is just a complete human rights violation* that our government can completely neglect one of its own citizens and leave him to rot in Guantanamo Bay.”

A handful and two entire placards … It’s an outpouring!

*FYI Hicks fans: this is what a complete human rights violation looks like.

Solitary eh? Don’t suppose they fear he might get shanked?

Didn’t he get nine months or something in an Australian prison? Man, that’s going to seem like five years at Gitmo.

I’d ask what the hell is the matter with some people that they could repeat, and give credence to the words of an avowed enemy, but I’m afraid I know the answer. Maybe one of these days we’ll learn to recognize the enemy within.

And welcome home, you little turd.

I’ll give 10:1 odds he’s recaptured/killed on a battlefield somewhere within 5 years of his release less than a year from now.

  6. RebeccaH Says:

PA, that’s only if he can satisfactorily explain to his Muslim friends why he renounced Islam. I’d say it’s more likely he’ll be dead in a bar fight or a drunk driving accident within the next 5 years.

Not if they served the coffee cold! That alone is cause for a war crimes tribunal to be convened.
