Tut Exhibit Racist
Fails to mention Africa, implies Tut was white.
(h/t archaeoblog, which also addresses the issue of male dominance of the archaeological record. put another way, “love is fleeting, stone tools are forever.”)

Man, how bored would you have to be that you’d rather go out and protest a museum exhibit instead of doing what you’re doing? Wouldn’t want to meet such a person.

The only thing sillier than the protest is the museum’s response to it. Symposium, indeed. Pfft.

Sounds like more faux outrage to me. Yawn.

Loved this response:
I had about a dozen smart-ass comments, but discretion forbids me from actually typing them.

I hope they’re gone by the time we drive down to see it in July.

Heh,
This demonstration is part of a larger “revision” of history by certain groups that are convinced that Egyptians, and even the Greeks (such as they were) of Homer’s time were actually black.
They challenge the notion that Nubian culture was influenced by Egypt, citing the reverse as truth. They are, to all intents and purposes, history “truthers”, bent on exposing the “whitening” of history by Europeans, and rewriting text books to show that all traces of “true” Egyprian black culture was erased, etc.
They sometimes share a playbill with the folks demanding $40,000.00 per person checks for blacks as reparations for slavery. Go figure…

Well, just to make it more interesting: Tut’s dad was actually a DEAD RINGER for Dennis Rodman (the basketball player) I kid you not, I saw many representations of him in the Berlin museum.
To make it even more juicy, this Dennis Rodman clone was strongly monotheistic, unlike previous pharaohs. Some think that he defected to the East, and continued his religion. He later was called Moses.
WHO KNEW that our religion comes down to us from a Dennis Rodman clone? Or, maybe Moses did not actually die, he just started playing basketball, for some reason…
As for Tut being black, yeah, probably. He does look black, nice big lips…

The original Egyptians were descendants of the Sea Peoples, later known as Phoenicians. Moroccans and Tunisians are the same people. Not Arab, not sub-Saharan (Negroid). The later Pharaohs, after Alexander conquered Egypt, were Macedonian, but by that time Egypt was cosmopolitan enough to house many races. Revisionists can write whatever they please, and they’ll find ignorant idiots to believe them, but they’re ignoring the historical record.

To Rebeccah,
Sea people, that was full disitortion of history and facts.
Egypt before Arabs (specially ancient Egypt) was Kush (black).
To discredit its blackness, even you name the study Egyptology.
What a shame!
