Show Won’t Go On
What a disappointment. That Dutch kidney reality show. Not real. Turns out the Dutch may have us hands down on disturbing tastelessness after all, just not the way we thought. Too bad. I was really hoping we were moving into new territory. The reality show as social advocacy.
“The Biggest Carbon Loser,” pits warmglob trotters against each other as they dispense with their limos, private jets, mansions, staffs, etc., to save the world! Whoever loses the most wins a carbon-neutral lifestyle in the central highlands of Papua New Guinea.
“Who Wants to Marry a Pauper?” shallow hotties compete for the charms of a sensitive, caring, thoughtful, well-read day laborer who looks like Barney Fife, only with bad teeth and a speech impediment.
“Expirer,” regular Americans from various walks of life are dropped naked into Darfur, the slums of Calcutta, places like that, to see how long they last. Just like on “Survivor,” shameless opportunists heavily favored.
“Dear Leader.” Just like Big Brother, with lots of twisted mind control games, only in North Korea instead of a house.

Captain’s Quarters: “repulsive and exploitative.”
Blue Crab: “There are losers.”
Everyone’s favorite Dutch blogger at Moderate Voice, yes, but at least everyone’s talking about organ donation.
A little off-topic, but Surber is offering some other harsh realities.
Topics: other, shameless opportunism, shameless self-promotion

Compared to the carnage that is Big Brother over here the kidney show would have been quality TV

So a serious discussion about a serious subject is to had by boorish tastelessness and manipulation. The only way these creative geniuses could think of to get people talking about organ donation was this stunt.
If the West is in trouble, and it is, it is because we have aborted our reason and opted for sheer emotionalism. It leaves one bereft of sense, common or otherwise. Reality will have its justice.
