Ensmarten Yourself

With USMC Lt. Gen. James Mattis’ detailed reading list at the Small Wars Journal.  Even if you don’t have time to read all these books, just reading the list is an educational endeavor.

Shout-out and rave endorsement to one of the books on the list. I just finished Nathaniel Fick’s “One Bullet Away: the Making of a Marine Officer.” Excellent, unadorned writing and a riveting read.  Goes well with another great combat book, Evan Wright’s “Generation Kill.”  Fick led the Recon platoon Wright rode with in the invasion of Iraq. Fick also had the privilege of being with the first Marine units on the ground in Afghanistan.
