“We’re Not Jews!”

From her Unsealed Room, AKSommer glances over at Gaza, notices a Fatah gunman pathetically pleading, prior to being dragged out into the street and shot in the head by Hamas, “We’re not Jews!”

Remarked my Jewish deskmate, when I related this tale to him tonight at work, “Well, you are now.”

UPDATE: Bush’s fault.

Tigerhawk, in “The Civil Wars in the Arab World: Hobbes Vindicated,” asks a deep and pressing question about Gaza, Iraq and Lebanon and invites his readers to have at it:

The question is, are today’s civil wars (1) the “natural” condition of Arab societies that are not repressively policed, (2) the product of neocolonial meddling on the part of other actors (including other Arab regimes, Iran, the United States and Israel) or (3) the expected result of generations and in some cases centuries of domestic and foreign repression?

Unleash the hounds, and discuss the implications for American foreign policy.

But don’t miss the set up here.

Big Pharoah re Hamastan: “We’re going to have new neighbors soon.”

CQ: Is Egypt going in or will Israel have to? Or does Israel just sealthe place off and let it stew?

MVDG suggests Hamas is acting on its original plan.  I’m not sure it has one.

Ralph Peters: “Want to know what Iraq would look like if we left?” He suggests Gaza x 1000.  Iraq is already there. Try Gaza x 100,000. Conservatively. Bosnia writ large.

Welcome Blairites.  Always good to see you. Just in time. The Governator is baaaaaack.  Been wondering what the Dem war strategy is? You could put it on a bumpersticker. Met the Austin Powers of the Blogosphere yet? Caution: neo-Churchillist Theo Spark is barely safe for work, and then only if you work, say, under a burkha.  You knew Australia = Ohio, New Hampshire = Bangladesh, right? Meanwhile, you thought Massachusetts as the bluest of blue states was a democratic place?  Guess again.

Hey, its Gaia vs the Greenies!

White House didn’t see that one coming

World Tribune has an inside track on how the Hamas massacre of Fatah came as a surprise to the Bush administration and to our intelligence services: “There is shock and awe,” an official said. “It’s a major blow to the…

How about the world building a fence around the Middle East and some other Muslim countries and contain these pathologies and dysfunction to those areas. One big ass fence. A la Escape from New York.

Egypt and Israel need to bottle Gaza up between them to keep the cancer from spreading. If Hamas gets control of the West Bank as well (and don’t think they’re not going to try), we’re looking at another Arab-Israeli war, and this one might suck everybody else in.

I think we are already in it, it is just that people still fail to recognize that fact–and this includes the Bush administration. Once again, our intelligence services were surprised by what has happened. Surprised. You have to be willfully blind, or self-deluded, not to have seen this coming. That they were surprised by it just speaks to how far away from reality our government, and other governments as well, have become. They seem to think that they can make a reality out of their wishful thinking. What has happened was predictable, and predicted, after Oslo.

And many, many, people have warned that Israel is the canary in the mine. Critter’s co-worker is right.

The 24/7 news cycle, and the Internet is causing ‘transparency.’ But in unintended ways. Once, a local fellow, after visiting some politicos in Ottawa, looked at me with horror, saying, “Those guys don’t know anything more than I do! And THEY are running the country!”

The notable thing about leaders in a western democracy, by the way, is that they are raging extroverts. Otherwise, they could not win elections. The downside is, they are so busy talking and schmoozing, they rarely have time to LEARN anything. Except for Churchill, of course.

The other thing is: I remember PJ O’Rourke talking about Arabs, saying that as individuals, they are quite charming. But in bunches… well, quite different. Have we considered that our “leaders”, like Clinton, Bush and Carter have hung out with various Arab leaders, and have found them to be charming and reasonable and easy to deal with??? And then, they are amazed when, back home, they turn out to be … well, what we peasantry note while following the news?

Because I live in Canada’s North, and I KNOW the Palestinian Gaza enclave cannot be made into any kind of peaceable kingdom. For example, I watched the mob scene at Arafat’s funeral. Did Dubya? Did anyone in the US State Dept???

Mayve Biush was following what the CIA was telling him. They aparently were operating out of the the Fatah headquarters* and now HAMAS has a lot of CIA data.

If true, who in their right minds would be keeping data in such a facility.

Tell your friend that this does not make the fatah gunman a Jew, but it sure makes him the very best of muslims.
