AP’s there now: 80 percent of upper level AQ leadership scooted, 80 percent of lower level leadership still there, with several hundred AQ deadenders determined to fight to the death.

I know they don’t have much TV (except for al-Jaqiyyah) and the Intertubes are a real challenge, but you’d think the word would filter down eventually: When the going gets tough, the bosses desert like rats from a sinking ship, leaving the cannon fodder to be turned into pink mist.

The higher-ups also fled when the US went into Fallujah in November 2004. Must be nice to be a speed bump, I mean soldier, in jihadi outfit.

But, I thought they were all eager to become martyrs! Wouldn’t this give them the perfect chance?
