“Bong Hits 4 Jesus”

… turns out to be a dopey free speech case.  Not exactly unpredictable.

Of course, I think we’d all be better off if they made high school students wear uniforms, and barred any kind of political or social advocacy at school.  Let them do it on their own time. “Bong Hits” Frederick  is now teaching in China.  What the heck is a pot-enthused free speech advocate doing there?  Proselytizing? Question for free speech advocates:  Should employers also have to put up with Frederick if now, as an adult, he decides to start unfurling banners at work-related events?  Frederick’s antics and insistence on wasting a lot of people’s time and money also caused a lot of trouble for his dad, who formerly worked for the company that insured the Juneau schools until his son turned into an expensive pain in the ass, and now also teaches English in China.  More background on this rebel without a cause.

Volokh dissects dope speech.

Powerline is all over the other big speech issue of the day.

Apparently the right to advocate drug use and be disruptive in schools is an anti-war position.  Makes sense.

Bong speech by kids good, political speech by grownups bad. Yeah, I get that. Here’s WaPo on SupCo’s tossing of limits on issue ads.

One Response to ““Bong Hits 4 Jesus””

  1. RebeccaH Says:

After that, Frederick said, he resolved to find a free speech protest that would draw wider notice.

Translation: Frederick is an attention hog who’s apparently been raised by an inattentive father (I notice no mention of a mother in all of this). I suspect Dad may have personality problems of his own.
