Hot Poll
Global warming poll: 71 percent of people smarter than “the vast majority of scientists.” They think global warming is a natural process, much as it has been periodically over the past 4.5 billion years or so.
The Pocket Issue/AOL survey press release describes an online poll, which suggests the 71 percent is not terribly meaningful, except that it suggests people who are interested enough in the subject to tune in at AOL’s Go Green and participate in the poll aren’t buying the line. Either that or there’s been some major guerrilla vote skewing. The pollsters also fail to back up “most” and “vast majority of” scientists. Last time I checked, there were some believers bolting for the doubters’ ranks, uncounted numbers of intimidated scientists, and the claims of lock-step unity were somewhat in question.
But that’s all beside the point. Under the rules of poll governance, the Prophet Gore must now concede defeat and climb back up the mountain. The rest of us must now start driving turbo-charged V-8s.

But this comes before the big world-wide shindig on July 7th. Surely those numbers will go down after rock stars and other celebrities inform our ignorance.

Polls or not, the climate is going to do what the climate is going to do. I doubt mankind has very much say about it, and Al Gore has linked his name to “hysterical overkill” and subsequent ridicule for the rest of this century (and probably beyond).

The Live Earth concerts are being done in the name of “raising awareness”.
My awareness got raised. I’m curious to know how much the Live Earth thingYs are going to waste, thinking about all the fuel wasted as the rock stars fly in to the various cities around the world on their private jets. And other waste dimensions of the stagings.
AlGore seems to me desperate for some notoriety and recognition, and he will cling to this topic…like…like…saran wrap.
Al and Tipper (you’ll be glad to know) say they’re working hard to bring down those EGREGIOUS personal energy use bills on the Tennessee mansion.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch…

“Watching the veteran star (Madonna) lap up the adoration, her entourage could, however, be forgiven for exchanging slightly jaded glances - having witnessed her jet in for the concert from New York.
…The Live Earth event is, in the words of one commentator: “a massive, hypocritical fraud”.
For while the organisers’ commitment to save the planet is genuine, (are you sure ?) the very process of putting on such a vast event, with more than 150 performers jetting around the world to appear in concerts from Tokyo to Hamburg, is surely an exercise in hypocrisy on a grand scale.
…The most conservative assessment of the flights being taken by its superstars is that they are flying an extraordinary 222,623.63 miles between them to get to the various concerts - nearly nine times the circumference of the world…at least 31,500 tonnes of carbon emissions…Throw in the television audience and it comes to a staggering 74,500 tonnes.
tonnes of this, tonnes of that. Tonnes and tonnes of BS.
