News of Londonistan
UPDATE: Flaming Jeep with two flaming, combative Asians in it rams terminal at Glasgow Int’l. BBC. Vid, photos, running updates at LGF.
UPDATE: Two in custody in Glasgow, linked to London bombs, Brown wants Brits to be “united, resolute , strong” and support the cops. Apparently still no word on anything of substance.
Big question: Given the way Gordon Brown has loaded his cabinet with Iraq doubters, will the Brown government accept al-Qaeda’s invitation to say hasta la vista to Iraq and Afghanistan?
Or maybe the “international terrorism” will go away if they just unknight Sir Salman?
Brown: Uh … “serious and continuing threat” … er … “be alert!”
No worries, that’s just a reassuring “lack of flourish.”
Brown’s closeted with the Cabinet at last report.
NRO: Brown’s early test.
NYT: Stoic Londoners shrug off threat. But this isn’t Grandad’s reaction to the Blitz:
“It’s something you get used to, living in London,” said Andrew Fowler, a 39-year-old lawyer who was sipping coffee at an outdoor café near Piccadilly Circus.
“And given the stance our government made on the war in Iraq and elsewhere, I think we are just getting used to being a target,” he said. “It’s something we have to live with.”
News roundup:
MSNBC: Global jitters.
ABC’s Blotter: Al-Qaeda trademark.
NYT: Linked bombs.
In other news from al-Britain, Sharia is as Sharia does: Brit judge in hot water for objecting to non-judicial robes.

The British are starting to sound like Israelis, in that they’re trying to just get on with their lives and not worry too much. The difference is, the Israelis tend to fight back.

Michael Moore assures me there is no terrorist threat. Thus, by definition, this is all fake.

You want some real news from Londonistan ?
Try this dweeb:
LONDON (AFP) - London Mayor Ken Livingstone called on Britons Saturday not to demonize Muslims after a double car bomb plot was foiled in the capital, amid fears of a Islamist terror threat.
British authorities seem to get the job done (often) despite the brain dead like Ken.

“In this city, Muslims are more likely to be law-abiding than non-Muslims and less likely to support the use of violence to achieve political ends than non-Muslims,” he told BBC Radio.”–Ken the Commie
According to Her Majesty’s Prison Service…
“In 2003, Muslims accounted for eight per cent of the prison population (National Offender Management Service, 2004), and this is a significant over-representation since Muslims make up approximately only 2.7 per cent of the UK population.”

Ken could be telling the truth, but I doubt it.

The Brits are known for a kind of stoicism.
As part of the “national character” and perhaps also as a function of conditioning during the years of IRA attacks.
After 52 killed and 700+ maimed and/or injured to varying degrees on the subways and a bus (2 years ago to the day July 7) it was reported that the denizens of Londonistan put on a strong demeanor and went about their business as usual, refusing to be intimidated.
I hope the stoicism doesn’t get in the way of the pissed-offedness.
Besides Ken Livingstone being a Grade A dweeb, his mushy remarks might have something to do with who voted for him. Kinda like “pandering to a base”.
Another Brit who similarly panders (verbally) is George Galloway.
