As part of the "national character" and perhaps also as a function of conditioning during the years of IRA attacks. After 52 killed and 700+ maimed and/or injured to varying degrees on the subways and a bus (2 years ago to the day July 7) it was reported that the denizens of Londonistan put on a strong demeanor and went about their business as usual, refusing to be intimidated. I hope the stoicism doesn't get in the way of the pissed-offedness. Besides Ken Livingstone being a Grade A dweeb, his mushy remarks might have something to do with who voted for him. Kinda like "pandering to a base". Another Brit who similarly panders (verbally) is George Galloway. The Brits are known for a kind of stoicism.
