About Those Benchmarks
Much of the reporting last week was about mixed results and failure to make significant progress, a lot on the futile flailing of an impotent Congress and not much on what the guy who is actually running the war had to say. Via Small Wars Journal, here is the progress report, with links and a roundup.
There’s a long way to go. But near as I can tell, the shaky coalition leading the nascent democratic government of an ethnically divided, politically and psychologically traumatized nation has actually made more progress toward its goals since January than the Democratic leadership of Congress has.
There’s only one conclusion to be drawn from this.
Pelosi lied! Anti-war agenda died! Democratic forces must begin withdrawing from Capitol Hill in 120 days!

I have only skimmed the material, so I can’t give my expert opinion on the report. I will, however, express my fervent wish that this administration hire somebody who knows something about writing the “headline” (for want of the technical term) designating operations. “The New Way Forward?” This is bad on so many levels that I honestly don’t know where to begin.
Critter is good at this sort of thing, as his headlines on this blog show. Tim Blair has a flair. Surely there is someone in government somewhere who could do as well. Please.

Today (just) it occurred to me that “benchmarks” in Iraq are typical of the modern day Democrat mindset of taxing entrepreneurship until it glows in the dark.
(I hope you can make this leap)
Hillary! yesterday just called for more taxatiofor evil “investment managers” (by whose machinations, undoubtedly Hillary! herself has profited more than just a little).
The best the overly wealthy ( check into how B. Obama obtained that strip of land adjacent to his house) can seem to come up with is…
“tax ‘em ’till they glow in the dark”
It’s enough to gag a maggot.

Power-mongers are as power-mongers do. They already have too damn much control over our money. The rest is easy.

“…the futile flailing of an impotent Congress…”
An impotent, futile flailing…well paid, well traveled and hardly working Congress.

As for is-it-is or is-it-isntAl Qaeda in Iraq, you can call it al-Saudi in Iraq, since the foreigners being shipped into Iraq through Syria to blow things up (including their Sunni selves) are apparently mostly Saudis.
Apparently, Iraqis themselves aren’t generally attracted to suicide missions.
Imagine that.
