Dems Stay Up Late
My concern is that they are going to be very grumpy after this.
Think Progress, up way past bedtime and liveblogging. Apparently they’re just in from playing with matches. Cocoa and more speeches next, I believe. Think Progress all-night live-blogging nods off before the clock chimes half past 12.
TPM rubbing its eyes, bails at 11:32 p.m. Only promised to stay up all night “sorta.”
Taylor Marsh, who thinks staying up late is courageous, thinks they may break out the cots soon. They also serve who sleep on cots.
Meanwhile…
The Republicans obstruct. Object. Obstruct.
I’m starting to get this. Given that the anti-war movement essentially doesn’t exist, except a few fringe groups and rather loud and eccentric individuals, with a majority in Congress that can’t even keep its anti-war faction on board for anti-war votes, the Big Sleepover is a bid to get a national be-in going. I can’t wait to see what C-Span viewership was.
Less enthusiastic views of the No-Doze Dozer:
Surber: Hey Reid, check AP.
Captains Quarters has McCain telling Reid to behave.
Powerline has Vets for Freedom on the Hill, plus a bonus, Gen. Pace after strolling through a market in Ramadi, happy with what he’s seeing in Iraq.
Would some surrender-crat please explain this: The senate today passed a motion (Cornyn Amendment):
“to express the sense of the Senate that it is in the national security interest of the United States that Iraq not become a failed state and a safe haven for terrorists”
Malkin, who lists the 94-3 vote, has art of the cots rolling in and being made up. By the help. Now that’s roughing it in solidarity with the troops feel off this. Michelle bravely hangs in until 2:48 a.m., and is back up at 7:18 a.m. Hey, Think Progress … think coffee!
Hang on, 94-3? The Democrats had better quit while they’re ahead (sorry, poor choice of words, I know). This is worse than being unable to even bring an anti-war resolution to a vote.
I suppose as an attention-grabbing measure in the middle of summer the slumber party should be viewed as a very bright idea, showing their determination, though I doubt most people care enough to know they plan to snooze off camera.
Hey, what if it all backfires. I thought the story line was GOP fleeing Bush. So what’s this about GOP resurgent?
Non-binding milk-toast resolutions than can’t get votes, followed by dead-on-arrival withdrawal bills. Sooner or later, the Democrats will have to ask themselves whether they are doing themselves any favors by demonstrating how impotent and irrelevant they are, when even the anti-war press is increasingly forced to acknowledge progress in the field. Because Americans hate losers, and sooner or later the public is going to figure out who the losers are. Grumpy losers, in this case.

You’re wrong, my friend. Big things are coming from this evening at the Senate. We expect a fully formed opinion on a question about an idea concerning a thing within 6 or 7 months.
You don’t think the Congress can do it, do you? Pessimist.

What’s the hurry?
They have to do this while Bush is still president. If they don’t, there’s an even chance that they’ll have to make this decision, which will likely mean the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, with a Democrat in the White House.

And these are the people that talked about bringing adults back into power when they won Congress?

“Spawn of Evil Jules Crittendon.” Oh dear. You’ve been found out, Critter.
The actions of the Senate may have no moment here, but I can guarantee that the enemy takes notice and plans accordingly.

On second thought, perhaps the author is talking about another person altogether. Do you know anyone named “Jules Crittendon?”
Either way, I think it’s tacky to talk about anyone’s parents like that.

“Spawn of Evil Jules Crittendon.”
I wouldn’t waste too much time worrying about what Barbara has to say. She’s an idiot even compared to other leftards.
