It’s a terrible thing to have happened, but it is definitely a wakeup call. Our infrastructure is crumbling. Maybe instead of dreaming up pointless pork barrel projects with which to enrich themselves and their friends, Congress could rebuild the national infrastructure. Somebody would still get rich, and the result would actually be useful to the citizens. What a concept!

Our infrastructure is crumbling.
And has been for at least 20 years. I was studying this issue while in graduate school in the mid 1980s. And it was a serious problem then.
Funny thing is, if the Congresscritters diverted all that pork to our national infrastructure, they would funnel billions of dollars into the economy in virtually every single state. The result would be a major boost to the economy, since construction is the one of the basic industries we have…..it’s everywhere.
But, no, our esteemed leadership is short sighted and greedy. Thus the situation that we are in.

Right on both counts. Pork kills, and greed kills quicker.
And Congress wonders why they’re at 14% approval and plumbing the depths lower. Stop the money redistribution (from the rich to the poor from high taxes, and from the poor to the government through lotteries) and the howler monkey antics, and those bridges could be safe for several decades.
