Not Sure Why
They keep doing it and I keep writing about it. But Pelosi apparently didn’t hold another withdrawal vote, but angled for a heartstrings tugger with another go-nowhere hamstring the generals votes. Here are some of the funny parts of this article:
Since taking power in January, congressional Democrats have moved methodically, but so far unsuccessfully, to force Bush to change course in the war. Most prominently, the president vetoed legislation this spring that included a timeline for a troop withdrawal.
“Spasmodically” or “quixotically” might be better word choices than “methodically, but so far unsuccessfully.” This is also good:
The Pew Foundation poll released during the day showed support for a withdrawal is strong: more than half of the country as a whole, including 85 percent of self-described Democrats and 64 percent of independents.
Hey, how come they didn’t include this poll? Three percent approval rating is pretty much mass seppuku time under standard governance-by-poll rules, correct me if I’m wrong. Maybe they’ll do that after the monthlong August vacay.

Instead of “spasmodically” or “quixotically”, I suggest “pathetically”.

Could we trade the Iraqi Parliament for congress? I have the feeling that we would come out on top in a deal like that. The Iraqis would hate us forever but they shouldn’t have let us see that their’s was better than ours. This is of course a two for one deal or it’s off.

It is a slow-motion seppuku, with a jihadi second standing in wait to lop off their collective head.
