Como Se Dice Angst?

Dems sweat:  

WASHINGTON, Aug. 4 — Under pressure from President Bush, House Democrats on Saturday grudgingly prepared to move ahead with approving changes in a terrorist surveillance program despite serious reservations about the scope of the measure.

With time running out before a scheduled monthlong break and the Senate already in recess, House Democrats confronted the choice of accepting the administration’s bill or letting it die. If it died, that would leave Democratic lawmakers, who have long been anxious about appearing weak on national security issues, facing an August fending off charges from Mr. Bush and Republicans that they left Americans exposed to terror threats …

“They have got us in a vise,” Representative Louise M. Slaughter, Democrat of New York and chairwoman of the Rules Committee, said as she left a Saturday afternoon meeting where senior Democrats were debating how to handle the issue in the final hours before recess.

No kidding.  You either have to be for it, or against it.  Sometimes life sucks that way.

   Considering the amount of bitching and moaning these same people have done about Iraqi politicians, it is kind of interesting that the President threatened to keep them in session just to get them off their asses.

   I love that line. If the Democrats had balls, I suppose they could consider them squeezed. I notice the Dems haven’t called Bush dumb lately.

   Rebecca: Right.

   But consider the “vise.” According to them, they had a choice between writing and fighting for a bill they believed in, or passing something they didn’t believe in so they could go on vacation.

   Yep, these are serious people.
