Jayson Beauchamp, United States (Winter) Army
Prevaricating baghead mil columnist reportedly recants. Goldfarb at Weekly Std:
THE WEEKLY STANDARD has learned from a military source close to the investigation that Pvt. Scott Thomas Beauchamp–author of the much-disputed “Shock Troops” article in the New Republic’s July 23 issue as well as two previous “Baghdad Diarist” columns–signed a sworn statement admitting that all three articles he published in the New Republic were exaggerations and falsehoods–fabrications containing only “a smidgen of truth,” in the words of our source.
Separately, we received this statement from Major Steven F. Lamb, the deputy Public Affairs Officer for Multi National Division-Baghdad:
An investigation has been completed and the allegations made by PVT Beauchamp were found to be false. His platoon and company were interviewed and no one could substantiate the claims.
According to the military source, Beauchamp’s recantation was volunteered on the first day of the military’s investigation. So as Beauchamp was in Iraq signing an affidavit denying the truth of his stories, the New Republic was publishing a statement from him on its website on July 26, in which Beauchamp said, “I’m willing to stand by the entirety of my articles for the New Republic using my real name.”
Can’t wait to see the next New Republic statement. Cat seems to have currently got TNR’s tongue, unless they’ve buried it somewhere off the front page, now leading with a Petraeus-bash by veteran Iraq-basher Andrew Bacevich, plus an examination of a PTSD Marine’s suicide that asks, “Was Jeff Lucey a victim not simply of the anxiety of war, but of this war in particular?”
Meanwhile, stay tuned for Beauchamp’s new career. Jayson Blair wrote a book blaming the NYT of racism and himself of being a crazy drug addict. He’s now all about advocacy for the mentally ill. Beauchamp, with his background as a war zone liar, would make a great Winter Soldier.
Prior: (Dog’s) Breakfast of (Beau) Champions.
UPDATE: TNR defends all. Claims flacks saying earlier TNR statement is corroborated. Here’s a flack on the record saying Beauchamp was found to be full of it.

But Jules, don’t Beauchamp’s fabrications speak to a larger truthiness here? In lying boldly to all of us, haven’t he and Franklin Foer opened our eyes to a new, more concrete reality, even if it existed only in STB’s mind?
It’s 2007, Jules…let’s get past all of these mundane facts and leaden data, escewing the musty ways of the past in favor of a bright, colorful world of the potential of the human mind.

Those who want to believe the truthiness of this idiot’s accusations will simply say that the military lies, and of course the other soldiers will cover their asses and lie under oath. They’re all a bunch of liars–except for STB, who is a brave man trying to open our ignorant eyes to the truths of war (it’s hell, by the way, and affects the warriors who fight it SURPRISE! and there are jerks in the military SURPRISE!).

I’m still waiting for the truthiness of the administration’s pre-war claims to be confirmed.
But do go ahead and attack a regular soldier, peasants.
Grovel for your masters.

‘I’m still waiting for the truthiness of the administration’s pre-war claims to be confirmed.’
Have been in every instance to anyone with the wit to have understood plain English.
“But do go ahead and attack a regular soldier, peasants.”
The one that was attacked by the left for trying to have his say at the Yearly Kos, worm?
Because Beauchamp is any but a regular soldier. Regular soldiers are generally men and women of honor in my experience, (though you do get the occasional Beauchamp) and don’t lie about their comrades or their service. They hold themselves to a much stricter code of ethics than the left. Which is why they generally despise the left.
But hey, grovel for your handlers, jihad boy.

Better to assume Beauchamp isn’t a typical soldier than to face reality, Oldman?
The whole war has been run that way, why change a good thing, eh?

Having grown up in the military, and served myself, I’d say that Beauchamp isn’t a typical soldier, or a typical member of the military in general, for that matter. Of course, I’m sure that Alf speaks with greater authority and experience than I, or any of the rest of those here who serve now, or are veterans.

I know peasants when I see them, salty.
Blind loyalty to your betters, attack like wild dogs anyone from your own class who dares to speak up against them.
Fortunately, your kind has proven to be a tiny percentage of the American population.
As you would expect.

“Better to assume Beauchamp isn’t a typical soldier than to face reality, Oldman?”
Geez, how utterly stupid can someone be to write this. You utter moron. I don’t have to assume anything. He’s already admitted to lying.
‘I know peasants when I see them…’
You are getting shriller and shriller by the day as the left’s house of lies disintegrates faster and faster, jihad boy.
What’s the matter? Not getting your script updates? Nothing fresh getting to you? Poke your head up through the seat and take a look. The latrine is emptying out as more marching moron handlers bail every day. What ARE you going to do when congress goes back in session and decides to bill the left for damages after the frantic conference calls of the next few weeks.
Make sure you turn out the lights.

Well, here’s to hoping Pvt. Beauchamp gets put back into Iraq with his unit after all’s said and done. Him being a ‘typical soldier’ and all, I’m sure all of those other typical soldiers will welcome him with open arms. After all, doesn’t everyone like having any and all sorts of depravity attributed to him and his mates, especially when it’s untrue? Hell, I bet they throw the mother-humper a party, I do.

“Well, here’s to hoping Pvt. Beauchamp gets put back into Iraq with his unit…”
I think iot would be a lot better if they put him where he can’t do any harm.
Like out of the military, for example.

Alfalfa says–
“…Fortunately, your kind has proven to be a tiny percentage of the American population.

Oh, yes, the netroots, DailykosKids, andthe Left represent such a wide swath of the American landscape, a virtual rainbow, a true demographic mirror of our country. As Kos says, “we are the Center” yeah…
“A Diversity of Opinion, if Not Opinionators”

[ ]We have met the enemy and he is us”
So the Kossacks have discovered they are mostly middle-aged, middle-class, white men who are fighting “the man”. How ironic. When they notice this they vow to be more diverse. One way was to bus in diversity, by taking up a collection to bring in the “Chicago 17″. “It included racial, regional and gender diversity” according to the story.
Maybe they should have racial and gender quotas like the universities. Keep out qualified white men in favor of minorities and women, qualified or not. Doesn’t matter their performance, only that they were “included”.
I have a suggestion: how about busing in some conservatives to help the “diversity problem”? And letting them participate. They seem to have a real problem with that, especially if it’s a soldier:
These middle-aged, middle-class, white men didn’t get where they are today through socialized health care, welfare, pacifism of their ancestors or redistributed wealth, which is precisely what they are demanding. These nuts should be careful what they wish for.” [spamsux1]
And who was Pvt. Beauchamp–a doughy looking white male full of anger towards “the man”. What we’ve got here a whole new legion of self hating white people. Chomskybots as someone here said. These people are willing to say or do anything to defame America give us our comeuppance.

Like out of the military, for example.
Beauchamp didn’t step on his dick enough for that. He’ll require more supervision, but, really, the best place for him is right back with the buddies that he slandered. There will be a reconciliation, Dave. Beauchamp will survive it, heck, he won’t even be touched. But he will remember it.

You say “peasant” like that’s a bad thing, al-Phie. I say “snob” because it really is a bad thing.
August 8th, 2007 at 9:07 pm
Oh hell, ant, you do enough groveling for all of us. I am an American, however, and those who know just what that represents don’t grovel.
Your “concern” for the regular soldier is touching, however. I’m sure all the regular soldiers appreciate it.
