Bite Him!
Knuckle-dragging moderate resorts to slogan vs. snobby lib. MVDG to Schroeder, Bite Me:
Schroeder is a Democratic Liberal who despises conservatives and who seemingly believes that all conservatives are stupid. Her reason for thinking this? Conservatives read less books than liberals. In fact, according to Mrs. Schroeder, this is due to ‘the fact’ that conservatives are not interested in ideas and solutions (let alone complicated matters). No, according to her, the only thing that appeals to us stupid people are slogans.
Everybody’s favorite moderate Euro notes that moderates read less than conservatives, and adds:
So, one could conclude that the stupidity of conservatives is only rivaled by that of moderates.
That or…White House spokesman Tony Fratto said Schroeder was “confusing volume with quality” with her remarks.
That’s pretty much where I’m going with this. I don’t have much time to lie around dreamily flipping pages myself. Wish I did. But if you do, and you’re drawing from lists like this or this, you might do better to limit yourself to the slogans and invest your time in something more educational like, I dunno, reality TV.
By the way, what the heck is a total partisan lib doing as president of the American Association of Publishers?

“…Tony Fratto said Schroeder was ”confusing volume with quality” ”
Apparently.
A lot of what makes it into print these days (everybody and their brother writing a tell all/expose/tortured biography…fill in the blank)…should be assiduously avoided by anyone who doesn’t want to clutter up their neural circuits.
What a perfectly absurd series of observations and criticisms coming from Ms. Schroeder.

Every time these people open their mouths, they reinforce the idea that they really are elitist lotus eaters who lie around all day reading Derrida and thinking lofty thoughts about ways to get us filthy proles to cut back on our profligate lifestyles.
And then they cry dirty pool when they can’t get more votes!

The truly astonishing thing is the obvious relish with which Ms. Schroeder states her opinion. She has absolutely no idea that she just engaged in the verbal equivalent of mooning her audience. She can read all the books she likes, it isn’t going to make her a grownup.

Yawn. Another shaggy in-tah-lect-you-ul. This one a former congresscritter, to boot!

Such are the “humanitarians” who love mankind, but have nothing but contempt for man.
What she means isn’t that we don’t read, it’s that we don’t read what she considers to be important books, by authors she considers to be important–those script writers who tell her what to say at the better cocktail parties and charity flings.

Another lover of mankind with nothing but contempt for man.
I think her actual complaint isn’t that conservatives don’t read, but that they do not read the “important book, by those “important” authors that she reads. You know, those script writers who tell her all the right things to say, at all the right cocktail parties, to all the right people.

I read books, but I doubt if Schroeder would approve of them. So I guess that means they would not count.

Conservatives, “Slogans,” and Reading Habits
Jules asks: “By the way, what the heck is a total partisan lib doing as president of the American Association of Publishers?” Partisan, indeed. Schroeder has worked for Planned Parenthood and, of course, was one of Congress’ most liberal members as …

“White House spokesman Tony Fratto said Schroeder was “confusing volume with quality” with her remarks.”
The White House can’t do math. The study says that 22 percent of liberals and moderates have not read a book in the past year, compared to 34 percent of conservatives. If you haven’t read any book at all, there’s neither quantity nor quality - it’s zero.

I suspect I have read both more, and better quality books than the Former Weeping Rep. Schroeder…but then again, I’m just some dupe/hick/fool killbot.

I just read The Hobbit to find some ideas and solutions for our current day situation. Sadly, no such information was forthcoming. Next, I’m trying Space:2001. Wish me luck!

That’s OK, corndog, you can’t read.
