Baghdad by the Bay
This guest blogger won’t have time to write about the news today. I have a hot date. For luck I plan to shower with Dial soap. As San Francisco’s late, great newspaper columnist Herb Caen once noted, the word Dial is the word laid spelled backward.
In 1940 Caen gave San Francisco a nickname. He declared, “This is Baghdad-by-the-Bay!” Later he used the nickname as the title of a book about San Francisco. Hopefully he wasn’t a prophet.

That’s not as bad as Bush 41 calling the city of Portland, OR, “Little Beirut” back when he was in office. At least Herb was trying to be complimentary. The phrophecy part, eh, we’ll see.

So if Cindy Sheehan manages to push Nancy Pelosi out, does she become Saddam-lite, or Flat Fatima?
