At a Japanese village, farmers grow artwork in their paddy fields by planting four varieties of rice with different-colored leaves. Yoko Hani of the Japan Times has the story.

    Indeed, they are lovely. Christ, I couldn’t do that with a stipple brush..

    Well, not that I would have liked what was the final…or saw in my mind’s eye. I’d trash it, perfectionist you know. My daughter would taken what I had produced though, (as she has taken everything else) she loves her Dad…:).

    Absolutely gorgeous. Especially ‘The Wave’. I have a book on the views of Mt. Fuji as well as an embroidered picture of The Wave. what time and effort to create something so lovely tho only there for a relatively short time,

    How wonderfully innovative and beautiful! I’m happy their efforts have borne fruit, er . . . rice, and they are getting so many visitors. Wouldn’t it be nice to see these in person?!
