Name that party: I da ‘ho edition

Cross posted at Don Surber.

News outlets were sure on Monday to identify the party of Republican Sen. Larry Craig of idaho who was caught in a homosexual sting operation in a bathroom at a Minnesota airport earlier this summer. The lone exception was the Idaho Statesman. I congratulate all news outlets that identified him properly. They include AP, CNN, the LA Times, the New York Times, the Star-Tribune in Minneapolis, and the Washington Post. Save this for future reference.

Those nasty, nasty newspapers, telling the facts. They should have done Mr. Surber’s bidding and left out what party the Senator belonged to. Or done it the Fox News way and called him a Democrat.

  2. S. Weasel Says:

I’m going to take up a collection to buy Jules a more interesting troll. Who’s in?

  3. corndog Says:

Right, Sweaze. Because when your party’s going down in flame(r)s, it’s much better to vent your rage on the media and people who disagree with you than it is to actually discuss your (many) problems.

  4. Fatty Bolger Says:

Can we at least get one a little more skilled in reading comprehension?

  5. S. Weasel Says:

    You have lovely eyes, corndog.

  6. corndog Says:

I only have eyes for you, Sweaze.

  7. Theo Spark Says:

Is that I’da ho or He da ho?

  8. Mr. Bingley Says:

I still don’t understand getting arrested for tapping your foot while taking a dump.

  9. Vanguard of the Commentariat Says:

Amazing that the folks who profess love, compassion and accomodation for all things gay/lesbian/bi/trans get so vindictive when there is even a remote possibility of an outing. Unless the person has a “D” behind their name of course, then it is a ‘human rights’ violation. Too funny.

Amazing that the folks who profess love, compassion and accomodation for all things glbt are so vindictive when there is a possible outing.

Unless of course the person has a “D” behind their name, in which case it becomes a “human rights” violation.

    Too funny.

    I’da ho..isn’t that a new Apple product?

  12. corndog Says:

    VC,

The “folks who profess love, compassion and accomodation for all things glbt” are so vindictive against people who, not only are ashamed to admit an important part of their character, but try to cover it over by supporting anti-gay measures.

  13. Robert Says:

Corndo’s just upset because Craig wouldn’t do it with him.

  14. Vanguard of the Commentariat Says:

So ‘Dog, “compassion” is a sliding scale on the Left. Got it.

Probably why I was confused about the lack of compassion for victims of serial sexual harassment by our previous administration.

    All squared away now. Thanks.

  15. Vanguard of the Commentariat Says:

Dog, so compassion is a sliding scale on the Left. At least in terms of who supports the public subsidizing of elite special interest lifestyles (sorry, “pro-gay measures”) . Check.

Probably explains the lack of compassion for victims of serial sexual harassment in the last administration eh?

  16. saltydog Says:

You guys don’t understand. It’s the hypocrisy that bothers corndog. And if Craig is a hypocrite, AND a Republican, that means that all Republicans are a part of that little collective. Ergo, all Republicans are hypocrites. Q.E.D. And probably closet homosexuals.

Notice the difference when one of their own is caught. In one instance, an outed gay governor (I think he was a governor) immediately stood up and rehearsed his “reality” for us, so the world would understand and forgive. The left not only forgave, they extolled his courage in dragging the public into his shabby little reality, a reality defined by betrayal of his wife and children, and his constituency. They forgave and forgot–forgot the corruption that precipitated his outing in the first place.

Republicans just haven’t figured out the formula yet. That is a big problem and probably means we’re all going down in the flame wars enjoyed by the left.

  17. The_Real_JeffS Says:

More like a logarithmitic scale, VotC.

  18. Banjo Says:

What’s interesting is how the media sat on this story so long. Anyone care to bet that political correctness is back of that? It was in the case of the Republican congressman who was caught red-handed earlier this year.

  19. corndog Says:

No “compassion” needed for being gay, VC. Just equal treatment.

And no compassion needed for hypocrites who piously espouse “family values” when they’re not trolling in airport men’s rooms.

  20. Vanguard of the Commentariat Says:

So who does rate “compassion” in this grand radical egalitarian social scheme ‘dog?

Marriage is the only “right” I can see gays don’t have, other than serving in the military, (which isn’t a real lefty passion as I recall, just another “issue” for “activists” to be “outraged” about.) And since when did imposing your lifestyle choices on a 5000 year old institution for raising children become a “right” anyhow? About 10 years ago huh? That’s some pedigree!

Go ahead with that though. But watch out. Once “gender” is not a required field on the marriage license, the number of participants won’t be either. So you’ll be all weepy about it when it is two Vermont lawyers in a committed relationship. But when the 80 something Old Testament patriarch in Utah decides the 23 year old is getting a little fat and wants another 16 year old, I reckon you won’t be so enthusiastic about your “equal” treatment regime.

We were supposed to forgive Tookie Williams for the brutal murder of family of 4 because he later wrote a children’s book. But we’re gonna beat up poor old Larry Craig for whatever his inner demons are? Man you guys are something.

  21. The_Real_JeffS Says:

No “compassion” needed for being gay, VC. Just equal treatment.

And no compassion needed for hypocrites who piously espouse “family values” when they’re not trolling in airport men’s rooms.

Uh huh. Which is why the Leftie Sliding Scale of Compassion™ let a congresscritter who had a long term relationship with a male prostitute, while said male hooker ran a prostitution ring out of said congresscritter’s apartment, get off with nary a complaint.

  22. The_Real_JeffS Says:

Oh, wait, excuse me! You must be referring to The Frank Rule.

I begin to see. Trolling for sex in an airport toilet is nothing like hosting an illegal sex business in your private residence if you’re open about your gender orientation. That’s the ultimate “Get Out Of Jail Free” card. For “progressives”, anywho. Join up, and be forgiven of your sins, brother! Preacher corndog sez so.

Black is white. Up is down. Cold is hot. And lefties wonder why people view them with such disdain.

  23. The_Real_JeffS Says:

Oh, wait! corndog is invoking the The Frank Rule, the ultimate “Get Out Of Jail Free” card. If you are a progressive, that is, who Follows The Rules. Join us, sez Brother corndog, confess to all, and you shall be free!

Black is white. Cold is hot. Up is down. And lefties wonder why other people look upon them with such disdain.

  24. corndog Says:

    Counsin Salty,

No, I don’t think all Republicans are hypocrites. But I do think what happened with Craig is a logical result of the Republican ethos that being gay is something to be ashamed of.

VC, it’s not just marriage. Craig also opposed a bill to prohibit discrimination against gays and to make it a crime to commit violence against a gay on account of the person being gay.

Jeffy, Frank said he had no idea all this was being done in his house. Since there’s no other proof that he did know, I guess I’ll take him at his word, just as I might have with Craig, until he pleaded guilty.

  25. corndog Says:

    Salty,

Your paragraph about the NJ governor is a good one. The issue here, though, is that Craig had a 100% voting record with the “Family Values” crowd and opposed measures to end gay discrimination. I don’t believe the NJ governor had a record like that. It’s the political hypocrisy, not the personal.

“Amazing that the folks who profess love, compassion and accommodation for all things gay/lesbian/bi/trans get so vindictive when there is even a remote possibility of an outing. Unless the person has a “D” behind their name of course, then it is a ‘human rights’ violation. Too funny.”

Mark Foley was Satan Himself, according to Leftoids. Horrible Gay this and Horrible Gay that.

The failure to even cognize this apparent, uh, contraction within the “gay embracing” Leftoid Worldview (such as it is) is stunning.

  27. tanstaafl Says:

“But I do think what happened with Craig is a logical result of the Republican ethos that being gay is something to be ashamed of.”

    ??

“what happened” is that the Minneapolis airport bathroom had sort of a reputation for goings on not healthy to little children and other people who might stumble in to take a leak.

and sort of a sting operation was set up.

  28. tanstaafl Says:

Also what happened is that one of the nation’s federal lawmakers with a long history in both the US House and the US Senate pled “guilty” nearly 2 months after “the incident”.

And, reportedly, had told no one and had not sought the advice of counsel.

Is there more to this story ?

(besides, his protestations of “I am not Gay” yesterday aren’t the same thing as claiming he wasn’t trying to get a BJ or a HJ or whatever in a public bathroom)

  29. saltydog Says:

Republican ethos? Once again you lump everybody under the same rubric. I guess you just can’t help your little bit of the heart of the collective.

  30. Cassandra Says:

I do think what happened with Craig is a logical result of the Republican ethos that being gay is something to be ashamed of.

That is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard in my life.

Craig didn’t get arrested for being gay.

And he isn’t being criticized by Rethugs for being gay. In fact, last fall when he was “outed”, Rethug bloggers defended him (wrongly, I argued today).

He got arrested for soliciting sex in a public restroom. That’s a crime.

You can be gay all you want and that isn’t grounds for an ethics investigation. But if you plead guilty to a crime, you have done something that creates a problem, at least in most people’s eyes.

If you cheat on your wife, you have done something wrong, at least in most people’s eyes.

That is why Craig is in trouble today. NOT BECAUSE HE IS GAY. That is incidental to his present troubles. If he’d been caught with a female prostitute, he’d be in EXACTLY the same predicament.

  31. Vanguard of the Commentariat Says:

Corndog, all those other things you cited, discrimination and violence against people because of sexual orientation (or any other subjective criteria) are already against the law.

Tell me why special interest groups need to be called out in laws? Cuz when you call ‘em out specifically, they are “special rights”, not universal ones. Whether he is gay or not, that’s probably why Sen Craig voted against them: he was being true to his values, not to his special interests. His human weaknesses ackowledged, I’m liking him more all the time. (gee, and I’m the “homophobe” here, huh?)

  32. The_Real_JeffS Says:

    Taxpayer funded, of course.
