Hanoi Jane was wrong about aerobics too

Remember those Jane Fonda workout videos in the 1980s? Turns out high-impact aerobics was the worst thing people could do to their knees, CBS News reported:
Sheila Wares remembers the high impact aerobics well — and still keeps a library of titles under her television, although they’ve all been banned from her VCR thanks to a bad knee.
“It’s amazing when you think about your knee and how much it affects so much of everything when it comes to exercise, even with yoga you know,” she told The Early Show medical contributor Dr. Emily Senay. “Try and do a downward dog on a knee that won’t cooperate.”
According to Wares’ doctor, Jennifer Solomon, she isn’t alone. Many baby boomers are experiencing this problem. She sees many patients with similar over-use injures at New York’s Hospital for Special Surgery.
“These are the people who did the aerobics classes five or six days a week, the high impact aerobics, the step aerobics with three tiered steps,” said Dr. Solomon, a physiatrist. “These are the people who thought they were doing the right thing and following the trend of the ’80s.”
Dr. Solomon says the repetitive nature of high impact aerobics has had an adverse affect on many of the once devoted Fonda fans like Wares.
“They have knee problems,” she said. “They all have early arthritis, or have terrible arthritis where they can’t go up and down stairs.”
Ah, those workout videos. They were empowering women. They were going to make everyone live longer and healthier.
It turns out this was the wrong way to exercise. The scientific consensus of a quarter-century ago turned into the arthritic nightmare of today.
Dr. Solomon said these high impact exercise techniques are basically defunct because we now know how to exercise smarter.
“You go into any health club and take a look at their schedule you’ll see that step aerobics is no longer there. High impact activity is no longer there,” she said. “People are now into core stability and power workouts, which is less stressful on the joints.”
Today the only exercise Wares gets are the daily walks with her dog Maxine, which is far from the high level of activity she used to enjoy.
“You were under the impression that you were doing the right thing and keeping yourself healthy,” she said, “but it turns out to be a cruel irony in the long run, and did the opposite of what you were striving for.”
Let’s see, wrong on Vietnam. Wrong on Jonestown. Wrong on high-impact aerobics.
Maybe Jane Fonda ought to stick to what she knows best: Standing around looking pretty.

Really? What was her take on Jonestown? I don’t remember.

You left out “wrong on which rich media mogul to find marital contentment with” (not that there’s probably a right answer to that question, but I hear that Hugh Hefner has been known to express disapproval of how shallow and indiscriminate Ted Turner’s sex life is).
So what is the deal on Jane and Jonestown?
“Maybe Jane Fonda ought to stick to what she knows best: Standing around looking pretty.”
Uh, that was a long time ago. She is, occasionally, a great actress though.

Hanoi Jane’s best movie was “Barbarella”, where most of her screen was standing around in very revealing costumes. No acting was needed….nor desired. Not that she ever could act in the first place.

S. Weasel
Under a 1993 Freedom Of Information request by Freedom magazine, 8,603 pages from the FBI’s investigative file was released, plus an additional 30,229 pages.79 The documents revealed that the People’s Temple was a mainstream religious community. It had statements on behalf of the group by Senators Walter Mondale, Hubert Humphry, Henry Jackson, Sam Erving Junior, and many more, including Jane Fonda. Congressman Leo Ryan had been under pressure to go and visit Jonestown over accusations that the group was dangerous. Finally, according to a former associate, Ryan agreed to go due to his concerns about government “mind-control” experiments. Ryan had already taken the CIA to task over many of its dirty tricks and was embarrassing it. So he finally led a delegation to Guyana on November 14, 1978. He interviewed 40 people at Jonestown and spent the night and spoke highly of his experience there. He indicated that there was no need for a congressional investigation into Jonestown and that people were well treated and could leave if they wished. Also, the rumors of mistreatment were not based on fact. This was all recorded on film at the time. Ryan and those seen on the film were very happy and in good spirits. Jonestown was going to survive and the film shows there is no reason for the later so called suicides. None at all.
my assumption, this is part of it .
OH, Jane Fonda and her actions then and now are still idiotic and certainly un-American.

Considering she’s in her sixties, too late for that. This is a woman who spent her life dedicating her energies to stupid lost causes. Imagine realizing your only accomplishment is to look pretty and suddenly having this epiphany: Oh, fuck! I’m sixty!

Her best act was on that commie gun emplacement, proving for all time that they aren’t “anti-war”, they’re on the other side.

Honey, while you’re up please get me a cold one.

Yeah, but you’ve done a lot for America in one week than Hanoi Jane will ever do, even if she lives to be 120 years old. Which I devoutly hope does NOT happen. That would be worse than Jimmah Cahtuh or Fidel Castro clinging to life even they are brain dead.

Well, at least she’s consistant.

Yep, she’s consistent. She’s an opportunist traitor.
I’ve been saving a big ol’ bucket o’ tar just for her.

Wait. Does this mean I can sue? I’m not saying whether or not I ever actually used any of that bitch’s exercise tapes, but just saying I did: Can I sue for my crappy knees and compressing spine?
