Unfortunate Metaphor of the Day
Blind Harry (not the 15th century Scottish poet, but unfortunately our own Senate Majority Leader), on his various miscalculations in attempting to legislate surrender in Iraq:
“I don’t think we had any choice,” Reid said, shrugging off past skirmishes. “I have no regrets about the way that I have tried to marshal the troops. It’s been hard to keep all the Democrats together, but we’ve done that.”
I wonder if he’ll think twice about that come 2008…

I’m not sure that Blind Harry has any cognitive abilities in the first place. Certainly not based on his past performance.
Which speaks very poorly for the people of Nevada.

Nevadan here. The guy is a complete embarrasment. When he was a Senate “backbencher” he was on the right end of that party. Had to be, cuz this is a fairly conservative state. Now that he’s in leadership, he can play to the national nutroots base without repercussion.
Nevada politics are funny. You have one huge county (Clark, which contains LV) which tends liberal, high service and teacher’s union membership, and that is Harry’s base. The next largest is Washoe (Reno), which tends conservative. Then the 15 sagebrush counties (where I live) are very conservative, but no population to influence elections. So Harry has a good political business model as it were. Hoefully we can do a Daschle on him, but not till 2010.
Oh, and the media avoids mentioning it, but Harry is also a Mormon. So when they start to wail on Romney for being one, we should ask them how come its OK for the Senate majority leader to be one. Heh.

My condolences, VotC. We have a similar problem here in Washington, where King and Pierce Counties have the population base…….and most of the liberals as well. That’s how Murray has gotten away with her s**t for so long. Cantwell, not so long.

VotC, you beat me to the punch. Maybe Dingy Harry ( would ye blacken tha name o’ a mon o’ tha Lothian land by any association, Sor) can come to Mitt’s defense if it’s known he’s a fellow member. On second thought he might not, politics is thicker than water for the progs.
