He Writes the Songs the Deranged People Sing
Barry Manilow refuses to share stage with View’s Elisabeth Hasselbeck because of her “dangerous” views. Â
UPDATE: A source tells TMZ that it’s not Barry who’s writing this song — in fact, “View” producers pulled the plug on Manilow’s performance when his people demanded that he appear on the show without Elisabeth. Manilow has in fact performed on the show twice before — both last year — when Hasselbeck’s been co-hosting.
TMZ has learned that legendary singer Barry Manilow has pulled out of his scheduled appearance on “The View” tomorrow — because he strongly disagrees with host Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s conservative view! Paging Rosie O’Donnell!
In an exclusive statement to TMZ, Barry says, “I strongly disagree with her views. I think she’s dangerous and offensive. I will not be on the same stage as her.” Barry, taking a stand!
I’ve never watched the show, though in daily news meetings I’ve enjoyed accounts of Rosie O’Donnell and Hasselbeck butting heads, and O’Donnell ultimately being bounced. The accounts I’ve heard suggest Hasselbeck is polite and well-spoken but represents a view that drives people insane. Â
I always admired the way ubernerd Manilow had carved out a place from himself as an icon of saccharine romance. Now, I just have this sense of loss. Such a deep hurt … I … I remember all my life, rainin’ down as cold as ice, shadows of a man, a face through a window, cryin’ in the night … the night goes into mornin’, just another day, happy people pass my way, lookin’ in their eyes, I see a memory I never realized … How happy you made me, oh Manny …
Sing with me, people!
… Well you came and you sang twice on the View when Elisabeth Hasselbeck was co-hostin’
But her producers sent you away, oh Manny
It’s not your fault her views are dangerous and offensive!
And I need you today, oh Manny

This is about as tragic as not finding a Nilla Waffer in your banana pudding. Fortunately, I’m pretty sure I’ll find the strength to continue breathing.

Individual rights (and responsibilities), free markets, rule of law, the right to defend ourselves…
Dangerous views indeed!

Actually Mandy is one of the songs he didn’t write! It was written by Scott English, I think in the late 60’s and titled “Brandy.” By the time Barry Manilow got a hold of it there had been a hit for the group Looking Glass called Brandy, so he changed the name of the song.

Sigh…
Manilow was gonna be on TV again? What, are all the clubs in the Poconos closed?

Does BM think someone gives a rat’s behind what he thinks? Or does he think that this little tantrum might make him popular with the liberal “cool kids”?

Barry gives boring a bad name. Instead of shut up and sing, better to just say shut up.

Hey, our janitor here thinks the war is a good thing. Since the left pretends to care about the “little people” above all other considerations, why don’t they give this guy some air time?

“You mean Barry Manilow is still alive?”
I don’t think that guy was ever really alive. Not in any meaningful sense.

I understand that BM is going to do the soundtrack for Sally Fields next acceptance speech. Let’s hope he doesn’t use any music, that would destroy her concentration.
