Lurxst

Too bad there aren’t more like ”lurxst,” not afraid to tell everyone how he, she, it, whatever “lurxst” is, feels. Daily Kos:

This has been digging at me for, oh, about 4 years now. I have been hesitant to express this thought, in comments sections and in discussion with other people about the Iraq quagmire for fear of, I don’t know, being called mean. Or, un-American. Or something.

Supporting the troops essentially means supporting the illegal war. It seems that us anti-war types have been doing all sorts of mental and philisophical gymnastics to try and work around this. What has emerged is a sort of low impact, mealy-mouthed common wisdom that is palatable to everyone but is ultimately going to allow us to stay in Iraq for years to come.

Even Jim Webb’s shelved equal time legislation carries the scent of this erroneous wisdom.

Now, I don’t intend to demean Jim Webb. He is determined and impressive in his stance against the war and the crippling of our military. But this kind of legislation allows us to comfortably continue to support acts of aggression, as long as we give the troops a long enough break in between.

Until we have another draft, this is a volunteer armed services. I am not even beginning to count the numerous mercenaries that are involved in the occupation.  You signed up, you get to go to the desert and risk being shot at by brown skinned people who don’t believe the lies you’ve been told. A war of aggression is immoral, period. If you believe in God, you can damned well be sure you are going to hell for your participation in it. The only troop I support is the man or woman who refuses to be deployed so that they can make the middle east accessible to profiteers who don’t give a flying F about morality or democracy. Or a soldier’s life.

When Sunni tribes got paid off enough to stop shooting at GIs and instead shoot at Al-Qaeda (in reality themselves) it is funny how they suddenly became Freedom Fighters.  During WWII, French resistance fighters were also called terrorists and insurgents by their German occupiers. Can an anti-war proponent look at these Iraqi resistance fighters with the same admiration, even though they worship differently than us and when they eventually win are likely to install a distasteful (to Americans) theocratic tinged state. Can a person who doesn’t believe in violence support that people’s right to govern themselves, perhaps violently.  

I am sorry but supporting the troops means supporting this illegal war.

Now that wasn’t so hard.  “lurxst” didn’t even have to use “lurxst’s” real name to make that brave statement.  More like that, please.  More impressive with a name, though. (”Kos” for example, is a name, which is where this appears. This is tagged “Troll diary,” a Kos kategory that makes a great read, along the same lines.)

Come on down, Ryan Williams! Someone at Central Connecticut State University seems to have taken his opinion piece down, but here it is, thanks to Newsbusters:

As of late, if you were to bring up the president in a discussion you would find that many Americans disapprove of the decisions he has made. At the same time, Osama bin Laden presents many good arguments against the president and many of his reasons for disapproving of Bush are similar to those of anti-Bush Americans. Would it be wrong to assume that there is some kind of connection between feelings of the American people and those of Osama bin Laden? As I would love to make this connection, I ultimately cannot because of the actions of our president. If I were to say I agree with bin Laden, that would mean that I agree with a terrorist; under the Patriot Act, I could be labeled a potential terrorist and my phone could be tapped, and every move I make could be watched and analyzed.

In finding myself in this predicament, I questioned myself as to who the lesser evil actually is. I ask, “Who has done more damage to the lives of the American people?” Personally, I worry more about the next bad decision Bush is going to make than I worry about a potential Osama bin Laden organized terrorist attack.

One thing I have realized from these videos is that while Osama bin Laden remains free, Americans are slowly becoming bound by the decisions of the president to remove and restrict the rights given to us by our knowledgeable forefathers, without whom we would not be here. I can only hope that Americans will open their eyes and see what is in front of them, in order to prevent things from getting out of hand any further.

Williams goes farther than “lurxst,” expressing his enthusiasm for the views of Osama bin Laden and his desire to endorse them. Possibly because Williams, being a college student, is stupider.  But it’s a matter of degree and in any case, we don’t know who or what brave “lurxst” is, so we’re not in a position to judge whether “lurxst” has that kind of excuse or not.

   I’ll leave reading that stuff to others–young people. At my age, I’ve reached my lifetime limit of exposure to this kind of psychic disease. Unfortunately, the disease seems to flourish in our society, so one must be aware, alert and ever vigilant; as one ages, an overdose of fools becomes an increased danger.

   I appreciate his honesty. I’ve been shouting this since day-one of the war that you can’t oppose the war/ support the troops. At least this traitor isn’t a liar (on this one subject). I have so much more respect for my enemies when they can at least ADMIT they are the enemy. Now if the rest of the leftist traitors will get on-board and start telling the truth, we can go ahead draw up the battle lines and get this thing over with.

    Ya know,

    It folks like him that make we wish for voting rights legislation. It would be legislation that says who has the right to vote. It would start with basic civics tests, english comprehension, etc. If you pass, you get a picture ID that allows you to vote. No ID, no vote.

    Until then, we can all at least be thankful that the majority of Kossites are too busy whining and bitching to actually show up and vote. At least they are consistant in something useful.

    lurxst…any Rush fan worth their salt would never, ever spell Alex Lifeson’s nickname Lerxst that way, unless they want a personal 3am visit from the man.

    Nice that they’re now coming out in the open and telling us how they really feel. It’s like a festering, deep-bored zit, and once it bursts all over the place, the pressure is off. Only drawback is the cleanup.
