Any warnings from a member of the (thankfully) former Carter administration should come with their own warning labels, along the lines of “NOT RELEVANT TO THE REAL WORLD”.

Hey, I know Western Civilization in general and America in particular has been a rollicking good time, advancing humankind like no other system. God given rights, all men created equal, people living to 80 on average, dying in comfort, poor people owning cars and air conditioners, abolishing slavery, creating unimaginable wealth, leisure, technology and medical care, yada, yada, yada.
But lets just chuck it. Just give up. The barbarians are at the gate, so just let ‘em in. Cuz to do otherwise is racist, mysoginistic, elitist and is unsustainable to Mother Gaia. Who’s to say we’re better? And it surely isn’t worth some multigenerational war. So lets listen to old Eyechart Brzezinski. He ought to know, he grew up in a totalitarian state, so surely he pines for that.
